I presume they must had a stronger side out than the one that lost to the part timers from Luxembourg! Even the OS talks about a much improved 2nd half which suggests the first must have been pretty awful which is a concern considering I presume Silva feels those who started might be nearer first choice (baring injuries)
I assume Berghuis, Watson and Behrami are all going and maybe Zarate I assume we will play Silva's favoured 4-2-3-1 so imagine the team will set up something like; --------------------------------------Gomes--------------------------------------- Janmaat (Femenia)--Prodl (Cathcart/Mariappa)--Kabasele (Kaboul/Britos)---Holebas (another) -----------------Chalobah/Capoue-----Doucoure/Cleverley--------------- Amrabat (replacement?)----Pereyra/Hughes----Success (another?) -------------------------------------Deeney/Okaka------------------------------- So centrally I think we look pretty good, but out wide we need players bringing in - at least 2 (maybe Zarate can play wide). Talk is Femenia may play as a winger rather than RB, so maybe we need another RB (hence the link with Jenkinson) I also think we are short up front, Left Back and could do with improvement at Centre Back (but we have 6 CBs, so need to offload at least 2/3
Why do managers insist on having favoured systems eg. 4-2-3-1 ? We need a manager who is open enough to base his system around the existing abilities in the squad.
I imagine because it just suits their style of training... although would expect him to have a 'back up' formation. A 4-2-3-1 can easily change to a normal 4-4-2 by chucking another striker on for the AM if you need to go offensive, or a DM and go 4-5-1 if you need to go defensive and keep it tight. Maybe a question for Hull fans to see how flexible he was with his formation...
http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp.../15440882.Berghuis_fee_agreed_with_Feyenoord/ £5.8 million for Berghuis - about £1 million more than we paid for him I think.
I suspect we got some good loan fees and his wages were already covered. I bet we made a decent profit overall on this deal
On the one hand a loss. I think he could have been a good acquisition for us in time. On the other hand I'm glad for him as he looked very happy at Feyenoord last season.
Hope these youngsters can get more of a chance.. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/watfordfc/watfordfcnews/15440947.Seven_sign_new_deals/
Only for duration of loan which was not for the entire length of his time with us as I recall he was with us for two seasons.
Capoue and Sliva bust up? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...78/Etienne-Capoue-s-Watford-future-doubt.html Probably been told he has to work for a first team spot for once... Deeney also been told he isn't certain to be captain..
There's a rumour on Twitter that Capoue and Silva have had a furious bust-up, one that might mean his Watford career is over.
Since the Pozzo takeover the Daily Mail publishes a story every year just before the season starts about how things are falling apart at Watford. No doubt there was a disagreement but who knows how deep that disagreement was. As for Deeney, other sources say that Silva said that if Deeney were to lose the captaincy he would be told first.
The Hornets starting line up at Villa Park: Gomes; Cathcart, Kabasele, Kaboul, Mason; Cleverley, Doucoure, Chalobah, Amrabat, Sinclair, Pereyra. Subs: Pantilimon, Femenia, Prödl, Rowan, Watson, Hughes, Success, Okaka.
