    a) I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg not just with ourselves but with much of professional football. 10 years ago Arsenal had an offshore company whose members were changed to be the players of the first team in the previous match and then all bonuses were paid as dividend to the shareholders and they paid around 5% tax on these. It was challenged and deemed legal but it was a tight call. Clubs have sailed close to the wind since the money started flooding in but the top try to put in a plausible deniability barrier which simply isn't plausible.

    b) If people avoid or evade the taxes they have an obligation to pay then I have neither time nor sympathy for them. I do not care that it is my club, if they are found to have been defrauding the tax office then they can and should have the book thrown at them.

    c) I don't think we will have a points deduction but if we do and it affects either promotion or relegation (next season) then I will also have no time for wums coming on - whilst it could be a fair punishment for the club it is massively harsh on the fans.

Come on man, if you're a WUM this is the golden egg <laugh>

I think everyone is getting a bit over excited about this HMRC timed PR exercise if you ask me. The HMRC are scum the way they've gone about it in my eyes. That said any genuine tax evasion should be hammered by them.

Its amazing timing from the HMRC though isn't it? Its almost like it will deliver the most impact. I'd be interested what the side story is to all this. What are the HMRC trying to divert attention away from, or to? Have they been threatened with cuts? For this to all be leaked to the national press the way it has and be orchestrated in such a way, there must be other things in play here.

Also is the London Stadium not tax payer funded? Have they not just raided themselves? <laugh><laugh><laugh>

    Absolutely.
If I were a Mackem it will be like Christmas. It will also deflect any potential Mag Wummery away from their relegation. It's a win/win really for them.
Highlight of their season for some.
We dish it so should take it.
I remember a few taking the piss over the AJ/Byrne scandal when she protected (allegedly) the nonce... so this is an opportunity for payback for some as our MD is at the centre of another scandal.

Payback for Fat Mike treating the enquiry into zero hour contracts at SD with disdain.
    Perfect timing as you say.

And Corbyn having a go at Fat Mike in his speech. Tories had to show they were tough on Ashley as well. He's literally so unpopular that even politicians can make themselves look good by comparison.

I fully expect a statement from Tim Farron saying that gay sex is not a sin unless it involves Mike Ashley, in which case it's an abomination unto G-d.

Would you kindly clarify which part of this statement is the Abomination?

I'm happy to respond fairly to most wummery, nothing on an internet forum is going to ruffle me one iota and I suspect most people are the same. I've just got no interest in having a conversation about how this is somehow 'deserved'/ 'karma'/ etc, I don't attend matches - I live a distance away - but 50,000+ do and it's not any of their faults what may come out of this but they would be punished (and the club should be if they are involved in that) but people then trying to stick the knife in about it just merit no response from me.

As for AJ, that wasn't the fault of Sunderland fans and most of the comment I saw about it regarding how willing some sections of the Sunderland fans were to sing out support for him and talk about the victim in degrading terms. If I see a Newcastle fan saying we should avoid tax or defending the club if it is found we have done something wrong then I will happily assert that I believe they are mistaken.

Mike Ashley, obviously. I don't think Farron has enough personality to be classed as an abomination.

Then why does Mike Ashley refer to him as his "abominable snowman" following a night they spent together?

Would this be a good time to point out that Premier League football isn't the be all and end all? <whistle>

Knowing our luck, three prem teams will end up implicated and all get relegated. Sunderland will survive and we'll end up in league one - or worse.

A few late snow showers being reported in April :(
