I know I posted on the match thread but he deserves his own thread for his performance today. He was sensational. I was sat in the Kingsland, near the Chapel so I had a great view of his complete owning of Gomis in the first half. Toby who? It's been a hell of a long time since I saw such a commanding, dominant display from a centre back. I just hope he gets the recognition he deserves on MOTD tonight. I kind of wish Costa wasn't suspended for our game now so Virgil could own him as well! :)

He's been magnificent since he joined. Wins everything in the air, reads the game beautifully, but the main thing - he is just unflappable. Looks a great signing. I said to Fats today, so far he looks better than Toby, and we never thought we'd say that.

It'll upset Fran, but imagine if we'd had got both of them....*drools*

This will also upset Fran, but it's not meant to as I am the hugest fan of Jose, but have we found a CB who may be superior to his partner.?

To put my admiration of Jose into perspective, he was the best CB at this club the moment he joined. And I've always thought that.

Well yes, we did that last season (and I love Jose too). I think and hope we've done it again this...

Yes he does. Personally, I don't think that Alderweireld bloke was better than Jose.

I just hope Jose can step up a little this season. Van Dijk has been class.

Fonte is good, he just needs to keep his composure better. He's overly reckless. As captain he ought to be more calm. He needs to keep his head better in the penalty box and in general.

Must say that I'm looking forward to seeing exactly what happened witht he penalty - it was straight in front of me but I genuinely have no memory of how it happened bar knowing it was going to happen before it did.

I used to be like that with goals, when at the stadium. I almost always knew when a goal was about to be scored at least a few seconds before it happened, but sometimes I would let my thought become audible and I would utter aloud, Goal.! Unfortunately, I also used to do it when the opposition were about to score, so friends would turn around and say shut up mate.! So I made myself stop doing it, which was harder than you'd think. :)

If we still had Toby, Virgil could be playing alongside Victor.. Imagine

I'd rather imagine him playing alongside Toby tbh. He's a tremendous CB (as is Toby) so play them there. Was always a little bit of a waste when we had to play Toby at DM.

That doesn't quite work as a fantasy, as it still wouldn't be better than last season with Morgan alongside Vic.

Eh, eh.! Hang on a moment. There's a little matter of a certain Captain of the Team you're throwing out with the bath water. He's got another solid season or so inside him for Saints, and then maybe Gardos can make the step up to partner Virgil.

I think you may have missed this one TSS... he is saying VVD could play alongside Vic. That's in midfield, so not taking Jose's place.

    Chill them jets. :)

I quoted the wrong one. LTL was saying about VVD playing alongside Toby. I assume at CB.
