Aston Villa to make £4m move for QPR keeper Alex Smithies as Steve Bruce searches for new No.1 Smithies, 26, has been in excellent form for QPR this season Aston Villa are eyeing a £4m move for QPR keeper Alex Smithies. Villa boss Steve Bruce wants a new No.1 keeper to boost his squad and is keeping tabs on Smithies. Smithies, 26, has been in excellent form for QPR this season and the Londoners face a battle to keep him. Bruce believes a top keeper could help them push for the play-offs and wants to shake-up his squad in January. They could raise the cash by selling Jordan Ayew who is attracting interest from China and the Premier League. West Ham and Marseille were both interested in the former Lorient striker last summer. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-make-4m-move-9512572
You couldn't blame Smithies for going that is for sure. We are a total basket case at the moment. His prospects will be far stronger in a team like AV.
It will give an indication of our ambition if we resist selling in this window. All the clubs at the top of the Championship will launch cherry-picking bids to strengthen and if we sell we are admitting we cannot compete...
At the moment, Smithies is the only thing holding us back from a plummet to the third tier. There would surely be huge unrest among the fans if we let him go
I know it's Christmas and all that but can we have none of this being rational nonsense please, I'll stick with my original comment, they can fook right off!
sell hiim definately because our number two is even better ingram is another dave seaman in the making, from the money buy a couple of black strikers that can fire us into the play offs even if we drop this season ollie can rebuild its all about strikers selling a lot of tallent this january is important if we are going down so what we rebuild, weve done it before and we will do it again
They may be true but a loss is a loss whether by 1 or 6. Smithies is not the only thing holding us back from a plummet to the third tier as Goldhawk suggests unfortunately..
I wouldn't argue with that, but at least Smithies is able to keep us in games longer, as with the penalty save against Villa. We then have a chance of getting something out of the game.
If you take the Villa game, our general defence was so poor that Smithies had to make a number of potentially match-rescuing saves. After about the fifth, Villa got one through - but !ooking forward, if we manage to stay in this division, then on current form, it will have been Smithies that made the difference imo, keeping the score against down so that as and when we actually manage to hit the opponents' net, it converts to points
Ingram is a pretty good stopper too. A good price for Smithies and those funds used to buy us a striker might actually be decent business.
the other side of the coin is if we dont sell smithies we will lose ingram for a very poor fee dont forget ingrim is currently also 4million rated and he needs first team action to get better no keeper of his ability will stay at a club in the reserves so lets get this transfer going as quick as possible ,also i think smithies could be going bald
I don't think 8-10 is unreasonable given the market we are in, his age and ability. Villa aren't afraid of throwing money around. He's got everything you'd want from a goalkeeper and is probably three years from his peak. Plus we'll probably go down if we lose him so I wouldn't be rushing to sell.
