I personally rate Phil. Let's give him a chance. Fergie saw something in him and I think JM is starting to see that too.

Smalling is back as well so you have 3 CBs that work well together in him, Rojo and Jones - personally I never really rated Blind as CB but you could include him as well.

You could do with an experienced backup though - Fonte's not signed a new contract...

I agree! I'm all for "experienced" defender. We have enough young ones in the squad to fill the spot. So we would need someone that offers something different to what we already have. Treble was alluding to that as well.

TBH All the big clubs would be MAD not to bid for Van Dijk. He's only 25 (iirc) and he's a monster of a defender.

I'd happily pay 50mil for him, he has that much potential. He's got 10 years left in the tank too.

I expect City to throw money at Southampton tbh.

Virgin Van Dijk and Toby Alderweirld are hands down the best CB's in the PL as it stands imo.

If City buys him, that would be another mega money spent on defender yet again in the last two seasons. They probably need strengthening in other areas first and foremost.

But you're right! I would rather have Van Dijk anytime than Victor. Van Dijk is proven in the league and at the right age.

Dunno about that - all the money they have thrown at defenders and they still don't have a decent centre half pairing. Haven't they been playing Kolarov ahead of Stones at CB whilst Kompany is injured? Otamendi continues to look shaky, so you could argue CB is the main area in which they do need to strengthen right now.
