I was just about to post this one, Kiff. Great minds. 1976. Wow, it was hot, and so was the music. Love this track.
My O level year. The heatwave was my excuse. Talking of which....this reminds me of Tracy - my first girlfriend. She had blue hair. The talent behind this band, Rod Temperton who played keyboards died last week aged 66. After Heatwave he went on to write 'Off The Wall', 'Thriller' and other hits for Michael Jackson as well as "Give Me The Night" with George Benson. Great song, but the dancing is hysterical.
Talking of which....saw this guy at Wembley in 1980. One of my favourite guitarists of all time. He went very mainstream but I actually prefer his lesser known stuff. He did this with Nuyorican Soul - this is the live version. The uplifting "You can Do It (Baby)". George at his jazzy best.
definitely been enjoying the way this thread has been heading, all kinds of genres and era's. Sticking to the 70's/soulful vibe we're currently on, here is one of my favourites,
1982. Falklands War. Me working upcountry in Thailand. "Avalon" released by Roxy Music. I was browsing the market stalls in Bangkok on a weekend furlough, when I came across a bootleg copy of the latest Roxy album, "Avalon". I couldn't believe my eyes. 40 Baht, or £1.00, in real money and it was mine. So I splashed out. It was the best thing I ever did. I wore out the track that is on this video. It is still, after all these years, my favourite Roxy Music track, and is one of my eight for the desert island, should the gorgeous Kirstie Young decide to make the call. Ah! Dancing under the stars, at an open air disco, trying to look cool while this track played, and my feet slowly disappearing into the hardcore with sand topping, that passed as a dance area.
I saw Roxy at Wembley when they'd very much moved to the mainstream in 1980. However, their best stuff is surely before then. Avant garde and pretty much 'out there' they influenced the punk era (just ask Siouxie and the Banshees) as well as the New Romantics of the 80s. This was them playing live at the Apollo in more recent times with a 1975 classic from "Siren", this is "Both ends Burning". Bring on the dancing girls! [Factoid - Jerry Hall was on the cover of that Album which was photographed in Southerndown]
Well, when you're 71 your voice might go a little bit. But when you can put a cracking band together and surround yourself with dancing girls wearing next to nothing and I say go for it. This is Ferry live in Lyon a few years ago.
Absolutely fantastic. What a Band, Don't get me started on the dancing/singing girls. I beg you. I'm as jealous as **** that this guy can still do what he does best. Another one for my desert island.
For all you Beatles/ nostalgia fans this is fascinating: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...les-1960s-prime-merged-images-city-today.html
