Trump will be arriving in Hamburg for the G20 summit quite soon - along with Merkel, Xi Jinping (China), Vladimir Putin, TM, Erdogan, Juncker, the directors of the WTO, the IMF and the World bank. Apparently King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia has cancelled without giving an official reason (unofficially he was miffed because he was not allowed to bring his throne with him) - to be replaced by the Saudi finance minister. In short - a greater concentration of criminals than that found in Wormwood Scrubs. As a former resident of Hamburg I feel saddened to see the siege conditions now found there to protect so many of these crooks and parasites - also the naivete of Olaf Scholz (mayor of Hamburg) who thinks that Hamburg can cope with all of this happening right in the middle of the city.

Erm - who's that sitting in for Donald Trump at the G20 meeting this morning - looks suspiciously like Ivanka Trump?

It's bad enough that Theresa May is there...

Trump is either a liar or he has a bad memory. Quotes from him about meeting Putin in the past.

    "I met him once."

"Yes. One time, yes. Long time ago. Got along with him great, by the way."

"I got to know him very well because we were both on ‘60 Minutes,’ we were stablemates."

"I never met Putin. I don’t know who Putin is."

"I don’t think I’ve ever met him. I mean if he’s in the same room or something. But I don’t think so."

"I didn’t meet him. I haven’t spent time with him. I didn’t have dinner with him. I didn’t go hiking with him. I don’t know and I wouldn’t know him from Adam except I see his picture and I would know what he looks like."

White House communications chief Anthony Scaramucci removed from post after 10 days, US media report.

Either he is a bad judge of who he employs, or he just keeps on having bad luck that people find him impossible to work for.

Perhaps Farage could give it a go as he doesn't seem to being doing much at present. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

As one of the most influential UK politicians in recent decades I doubt very much he is vegetating somewhere in rural Europe.

He's not influential. The billionaire offshore press owners that instruct their editors to give him a platform to spout his diatribe are influential. As Ron Weasley would say: gits!

Farage may be less influential at the moment but he played an enormous part in gaining the Brexit victory he tirelessly worked for. His success in creating a party from nothing to become the largest party in the European elections was unprecedented in UK politics. No other politician comes near him in the influence of government policy. Almost all political careers end in disaster, the Brexit result ensured his place in history as one of the most successful.

You may well be right SH, though whether I approve of his influence is another matter.

I was not commenting on the merits of his politics just judging his effectiveness. It was obviously much easier for him campaigning on one issue rather than the complexities of the multitude of problems faced by government leaders.
