I think this Haidara business is a disgrace. Just shows how ruthless Rafa is. He has decided to kick DPP when he is down. He was already concerned his man Haidara wasn't getting much game time, and now this. MODS - Can you issue a suicide watch on DPP please.
When you look at it objectively it's amazing how crap a squad we have managed to assemble. My concern is we've done sod all to drastically improve it so far.
The job certainly isn't close to finished. We need that prolific goalscorer and creative number 10. Fail that and it's been a very bad window. Manage it and it's been a good one - very good if the other signings prove worthwhile.
Perhaps. Anyway, good to see that you qualified your statement with uncertainty - they may be a decent bunch of recruits. Got to dilute that negativity!
Serious question, does anybody really believe we're going to sign anybody at all who makes us go "wow, good work, Lee."
If we're getting serious though, why are we focussing on Charnley? Does this issue stem from him? We are hindered from making most of the immediately exciting transfers by financial prudence (though when said prudence results in serious risk of relegation and subsequent loss of riches, where's the wisdom?).
I don't think Windy would lie to us. I believe we still have 80m odd left waiting to be spunked on 2 or 3 really big surprises.
As the weeks pass it's gradually taking less and less to surprise me. In a month I'll be surprised if we actually sign someone I've heard of and don't know is crap.
As it stands we're trying to stand our moral ground. We seem to be saying "these prices are insane, we refuse to pay them" but it's like being starved, having a fiver in your pocket and refusing to pay £4.99 for an egg sandwich. Sure, the price is high, but you need the ****ing sandwich so just buy it. What Charnley/Barnes/Ashley (and Rafa??) have failed to grasp is we don't have the luxury or choice. We're four weeks away from heading into a PL season with Missrovic, Gayle and Perez as our strikers, De Jong as our main No. 10 and both Jack Colback, Jesus Gamez and Mo Diame dangerously close to first XI players. Anybody who claims to be happy with that - including Benitez - is a mackem. Sure, a lot might happen and I hope it does. But does it seem hugely likely given the Summer so far? We've bought a utility full back as cover for Dummett/Yedlin (hardly good enough to begin with!), a winger to offer cover for Ritchie, a midfielder as cover for Hayden and one centre back likely to be first choice. Grand total is one first team player, with one season's top flight experience. Nobody can possibly count the signing of Atsu as a new player.
