Well there are another 40 days, before the transfer window closes. Over the last couple of weeks, some movement, but as yet no one to get excited about. I feel that after Thursdays game, although no great benchmark to form judgement,Jol may have a little more idea who he wants and in what position. lets hope he does not do a Sanches, and buys job lots. In my opinion 2 quality buys, & 1 or 2 loan signings.
I think a right back and a partner for Bobby (in that order) would do us fine. However, for the latter to happen we're going to have to flog AJ.
AJ is like an old Jaguar. If you try to sell it, you won't get good money, so it's probably best to just keep driving it until it finally seizes up. His problem isn't performance; it's reliability. If we can get a good stretch of consecutive games out of him (20 or more) before the next season-ending injury, that's probably the best we can hope for.
I agree with the jag analogy (nice one, DR), but what we need is a cheaper, newer car that's nice and nippy about town. It's worth taking the hit on a lower transfer fee if it lowers the wage bill and makes room for someone who will add to the forward line. I like AJ and think he played well at the end of last season, but he isn't the goalscorer he once was and, as others have said many times, isn't the ideal partner for Bobby that I thought he would be when we signed them both.
One can probably extend the car analogy further: America cars ... inexpensive but disappointing performance Italian cars ... technical and fast, but expensive and tempermental English ... also fast but less technical, preferring the direct route instead of the curves German ... reliable and technical equal with the Italians, but less pretty Dutch ... OK, they don't make cars. Spanish ... Ah, Ok, the analogy breaks down here
