    What guy from Bolton?

I can't see Perch doing ok at CB, he's not big enough when he doesn't also have great speed or awareness of threats. RB, LB, holding midfield maybe, but not CB.

Isn't it only out of contract players we can sign now too, loans deadline was also last night I think.

We have a 20 year old centre-half from Bolton- Finney. No idea what he's all about but at 20 he should be ready to be fourth choice CB imo.

I expect we'll go with Perch playing deeper with Manning and Luongo ahead. Personally I'd rather Doughty holding.

I assume none of the new guys are eligible for tonight apart from Goss?

I presume Goss will go straight in. I suspect Freeman on bench. Thanks.

I think most folks on this forum would agree that we often don't make enough of the assets at our disposal. Damian Delaney was a decent full back but who'd have thought he'd go on to have several seasons as a Premier League centre back? Peter Ramage was another one who we insisted on playing at full back when he was a much better CB. More recently, Danny Simpson and Jason Puncheon were allowed to leave and have proved themselves - par excellence - elsewhere, although these two didn't have to switch position to find that success.

I'd give Perch a chance at CB if we are desperate. I recall he came with a CV that said he could play there. As for speed, I also recall two of our finest CB's were also two of our slowest: Frank McLintock and David Webb. However, it's possibly going a bit far to compare Perch with either Frank or David! For sure, they had the "awareness" referred to by Oslo. As for size, does anyone remember a guy called Paul Parker? Again, I'm not sure Perch should be mentioned in the same sentence as Paul but we shouldn't necessarily be fixated by stereotypes.

Anyway, the point is, unless the logic is overwhelmingly against it, don't rule out giving it - Perch as CB - a try, especially if we are unlucky with injuries.

I hope not. Would like to think someone from Manchester hasn't been there.
