European leagues have been hoovering up talent from around the world for decades by offering huge amounts of money to players of all ages. Now it might happen to us.
    Like the Brain Drain.
    Only without the brain bit.

Yeah, fair point. I just think players wanted to come to Europe to make a world wide name for themselves and play against/and with the best (also to make money :bandit:), but to go to places like China at the moment they have nothing but money to aim at.

Maybe some of these players come from poor backgrounds and are earning as much money as they can now during their relatively short careers so they can provide for their families for generations?

At the end of the day, we, as in people of Britain don't experienced true poverty. There are people in the world who live in propped up homes, no free education, no free healthcare, no welfare. Their mindset is completely different to ours. Who are we to begrudge players who want to earn a lot of money? I really doubt that most fans would turn down big money offers in their respective jobs.

Loyalty is overstated - it's easy to be loyal when a club is paying you £100k a week. It's easy to be loyal if no one else wants you.

I agree with a lot of what you say Jimmy but I never even thought of loyalty. For me (and that is all I can speak for), if I was good enough to be a top class footballer I would want to win prestigious trophy's and maybe be well known in the world (by supporters, fame ). If you think that players in the top league of most European countries don't earn enough to set their children up for life (grand children are the next generations responsibility, it's on their heads how they squander the money they inherit), then you must have some high living standards. Unless you think future generations should never have to work again :emoticon-0100-smile

Thing is though, for someone like costa, he's already made a name for himself. He will never be branded the worlds best and he's already won a few titles (madrid and Chelsea). Now he's in the position to earn quadruple what hes earning so i can see where he's coming from. It's not like he's indebted to chelsea or any other club.

I agree with this. Why should players, these days, be indebted to clubs anyway? Clubs treat players as an asset and an investment opportunity as much as players treat clubs as a revenue generator. It's rare to see players that aren't treated like that or don't think that way and unfortunately will become rarer still in the future. It's hard to ever feel sorry for club or player when these things happen. Frankly, they deserve each other.

Over half a million per week would turn any players head!

Top players nowadays are multi millionaires but £500k+ is another level entirely

Yep, quadrupling your salary is enough to turn anyone's head, and why not???

We seem to continue to fall into this trap of believing foreign players care about our clubs <laugh>

Pity hes done it but understandable.

As for blowing our season, we're not exactly a 1 man team :p. Yeah he's important, but like every departure we'll get over it.

He could take Marc Viduka approach to Scottish football; only need to operate at 60% to be successful in this league. China will be a lesser standard than that so it's £26m a year for playing half arsed football <laugh>

We saw last season what a sensitive bunch your squad is!

Maybe they'll all stop playing because their Bessie isn't training with them?

Going by last season i fully expect your team to be out of the running too as you're near the tail end of a cup competition and you can down tools in the league.

Unless we progress well in the FA Cup, what will take our focus away from the league post February?
