Debatable how much truths in it seeing as nobody else pulled this out in any articles I've seen. Hope it is though, shows that Benitez knows his figure and it's an amount Ashley will realistically stump up. Hopefully that doesn't turn out to include player sales as I'm sure he'd walk then. Considering we got Krul and De Jong returning, along with the Thauvin money, plus hopefully Saivet and Riviere off wage bill I said to me brother we'd need 70 mill last night.

What does everyone think we'd need?

Sounds like utter horse ****. No manager has ever answered the question about finance/transfer budgets by revealing exactly what they have <laugh>

Most managers know but don't reveal. Pards, however, genuinely had no idea.

However, in the history of the World I don't think anyone has come out and just said "yep, I've got exactly £30m to spend, I'm off shopping". This is one reason why there are no female football managers.

To be fair he didn't know. His transfer budget discussions went like this:

"Mike I'm just enquiring what the budget is for the next window"
"How much were you thinking Alan?"
    "40m?"
"What are you going to spend it on Alan?"
"Well we really need some depth to the squad Mike, i have to keep picking the same team and the fans are saying I have no plan B"
"I like that song of his. :emoticon-0159-musicShe said I love you boy / I love your soul / She said I love you baby oh oh oh oh oh:emoticon-0159-music"
"Er yeah its a great song. Can we get back to talking about the transfers though."
"Not right now Alan, I've gotta ring Lee and tell him to pop down to the Virgin store"
"Mike most people download music now, I'll do it for you now if we can finish our discussion on transfer budgets"
    "Ok"
Alan quickly pays for and downloads Plan B's album onto Mikes computer. Has a cheeky gander at some porn while he's on.
"Right all done Mike, about the transf....."
"Get the **** out Alan you little runt"

Doubt the truth behind the story but no smoke without fire as they say.

I think 70M is the minimum we need to invest next year and hopefully we can increase that figure with outgoings again next summer.

As others have mentioned Thauvin (£10-15m), Saviet (£2-5m), De Jong (£2-5), Krul (£5m) all to come back/be sold, players like Colback/Diame/Murphy from this season to be shifted on, Anita and Gouffran out of contract as well. All freeing up transfer funds and wages so hopefully we could push towards 100m which is genuinely what I think we need to spend to be 15th-10th next year.

I think the story is probably bullshit, but at the same time probably not far off the truth of what is needed.
