    Lloris, Vorm

    Walker, Rose, Trippier, Davies

    Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Wimmer

    Wanyama, Dier

Is this the best defence Tottenham has ever had ?

As a complete unit yes, at least that I can remember. There have certainly been better individuals over the years but I've never seen Spurs look as solid at the back as we do right now.

It's difficult to compare teams from different era's because so much has changed in the game but our current defence is certainly better than anything since the seventies. They have to win something to be compared to the sixties team and they are capable of doing just that.

Woodgate & King just never had the break of injury free runs, shame because they had the class.

I'd have to say yes. I've certainly seen more potent, more creative Spurs sides, but never one that looked so solid.

Jennings, Kinnear, Knowles, Mullery and England were good.

The squad regimes were different then. You didn't have "two of everything" etc.
Would have loved to have had some of the defensive squad we have now, as part of
the roster of the 1981-82 season.

I think that it's the most well organised defence that we've had in a long time, though we've probably had better individuals.
It's definitely got some of the best depth.
Two good players in every position, especially if Carter-Vickers fulfills his potential.

Pochettino got it right yesterday in his post-match interview.
We win as a team and we keep a clean sheet as a team.
City couldn't get their game going from the back, so our defence had nothing to do for most of the game.
When they finally created a couple of chances, then our defence stepped up and dealt with it.

We're still not 100% and there are things to work on, but it's been an encouraging start.
Plenty of credit to go around and the team spirit looks superb.

I've been thinking recently that Toby is getting up there as one of our best ever purchases. Especially with how prices have gone up recently. Even though he was relatively expensive (for a defender, at Spurs) he'd still be right up there imo without prices going crazy since then.

in terms of mature players (say over 23), he's got to be the best we've had since berbatov, and one of the best transfers in the history of the prem.

I thought about Phil but he was number 6 so then not really a defender.

Yes he was. We played 4-4-2 by then, and Beal was next to Mike England. Mullery was more than a defensive midfield player though.

Yep, left in 1968. But still a great defensive midfielder. Nobody ****ed with Dave, as that dirty git Bremner found out!....

Ditchburn, Ramsey, Willis/Withers, Nicholson, Clarke, Burgess....... they were quite good, too.

This was the 1967 Cup Final team
    GK 1 Pat Jennings
    DF 2 Joe Kinnear
    DF 3 Cyril Knowles
    MF 4 Alan Mullery
    DF 5 Mike England
    DF 6 Dave Mackay (c)
    MF 7 Jimmy Robertson
    FW 8 Jimmy Greaves
    FW 9 Alan Gilzean
    MF 10 Terry Venables
    MF 11 Frank Saul
    Substitute:
    MF 12 Cliff Jones

In the 1973 League Cup Final the defence was the same except Beal had replaced Mackay. Only Gilzean was left from the rest of the team though

We beat Chelsea of course, making it our 5th trophy in 7 years (it would only have been their second ever...). That was pre Russian dodgy money though
