So what happens if Walker gets injured now? Kaboul's an option there, but he's been our best centre-half this season. Livermore did well there in the FA Cup 3rd round, but it's a massive difference between that and the Prem.
Yes definitely. The striking options we're now being linked with seem sub-par - even as replacements for Pav. Now we've loaned a senior defender out and suddenly we seem short at RB. I dread to think what'll happen if we sign Saha on an 18 month loan deal (as is now being rumoured), we keep Pav and Defoe goes to Liverpool. Our 3 strikers would then be Ade, Saha and Pav - hardly a top 4 setup, let alone a title challenging one.
Strange one for Corluka as I thing he's cup tied. Wouldn't be playing against Barca. It's all a bit strange so far isn't it? We are usually quite quiet but we're going a bit chicken oriental at the moment.
Walker at Spurs Naughton at Norwich Corluka at Laverkusen Adam Smith at Leeds Byrne at Bournemouth Somehow we've decided that neither full back needs cover - or we're expecting great things out of Jake Nicholson...
If we knew that we were loaning Corluka out, then why did we recall Smith and then loan him to bloody Leeds? He wouldn't even take up a squad place.
Only reason I can see why we've allowed them go is the fact of Kaboul's versatility and I presume King/ Gallas are near fitness.
We seem to be taking a lot of risks in terms of coverage in certain positions. Well so far this deadline day has been rubbish. Still - this amused me for a bit http://www.skybet.com/cms/breaking-transfer-news.shtm?name=Lionel Messi Substitute a name in (instead of Lionel Messi) and it'll print that out. I put in Robin Van Persie and scared the crap out of an Arsenal fan I know!
even after all my comments, I'm praying deep down that something major is happening in the background! I'm actually petrified of signing Saha with his injury record. 18 month deal and 1 goal in 18 games?? wow - this is a worrying signing. PNP has summed everything up. - "what the **** are we doing?" very odd so far. i'm hoping these stories are contrived decoy's!!! - Genius if so!!
The OS has suddenly got very glitchy - either due to the amount of traffic, or something big is going to be posted on it shortly.
I wouldn't bet against it! Apparently the Defoe to Liverpool is now also including Carroll to us. Regardless of what people think of Defoe - he's a proven goalscorer. Carroll did OK at Newcastle and now can't buy a goal. Is that really a good deal? You can argue that with the more attacking Spurs lineup Carroll should get better service but I still don't see it.
Defoe is proven to score about one goal every three matches which is not good enough considering he does nothing else.
Andy Carroll, since helping Newcastle into the PL, has a goal stat of 1 in every 3 as well. He could help out in defence with his height when defending set pieces but other than that I don't see Carroll being someone who will 'improve us'
Not that I take this seriously, but many of Bale's crosses would get the finish they deserve. As long as we don't pay £35m!
If the deal is true then it needs to be a straight swap - Carroll's market value has done nothing but plummet since he moved to Liverpool. And yes - you're right about the improved service (I think the same of Torres in this situation btw). It's a huge risk though in my book.
A lot of Defoes goals only improve GD, they're either consolations in a loss, or the 4th in a game already won 3-1, he never gets the winner against a top side. Michael Owen as an example by contrast only averaged 15 goals a season, but they were important goals in important games...the type JD goes missing in.
