Harry Kane is the first Spurs player to score 20 goals in 3 consecutive seasons since a certain James Peter Greaves
And just for mention... Always good to welcome Crouchy back to the Lane. Top pro and got a great reception from the fans. Unlike that fat **** Adam....
He we go again. We know Spurs, ontheir day,are as good as,maybe better than "most' teams in the PL but why do they keep having that bout of hiccups that knocks us fans for six sometimes?
So true. Then one realises that Wembley beckons for our home games next season, where our record is quite the opposite!
Top Man is Peter Crouch and great to see him back at the Lane today. A fantastic ovation for him when he got subbed. "Yiddo, yiddo, yiddo".
I think that Hughes has improved the quality of the players that Stoke can attract and they play better football. His problem is that he doesn't train or organise defences well, nor does he do enough fitness work. Far too many of their players are out of shape and they're a mess at the back. If he brought in a top quality defensive coach and changed their training regime, then they might push for Europe. They probably need to address the balance of the squad too though, as I don't see how some of the players fit in. I see Hughes as one of the managers that's benefited from taking over from a dour, defensive, negative coach. Martinez did it at Everton and it works out well for those who are attack minded. They make the side more exciting, get the attack going and still have that steel from the last manager. It wears off over a few seasons though and then you're left with severe defensive issues.
Hughes tends to sign the right players but he knows **** all as to what to actually do with them. A side that has Arnautovic, Shaqiri, Afellay, Berahino, Imbula, Allen, Shawcross and Butland (forgetting injuries for a second) in it should in theory be knocking on the door of the top 6, yet it's currently 16 points off. If I were the people in charge at Stoke, I'd let Hughes sign the players but actually hire a genuine manager to utilise them, it could be deadly.
