Hodgson obviously had a certain way he wanted to play, but once they went down to 10, why couldn't he try 3-5-2 with Dier dropping back? You need to know how to adapt to match situations.
Lallana and Wilshire made a big difference. They must start. Sterling injected some pace and it was a very good cross for the goal. Vardy and kane can't play out wide. Kane must not take the dead ball kicks. Milner mustn't start under any circumstances. For ****'s sake Roy, what are you playing at?
It became that as our full backs pushed on so much. The modern way of playing in a flexible formation often sees the two full backs pushed high up the pitch and the holding midfielder in between the centre backs.
We make the same mistakes time after time, trying to play all of whoever the manager thinks are our 'best' players, and playing them out of position as a result. Alf Ramsey picked the players to fit a formation, as did Terry Venables (how else would Anderton get a game?). Bobby Robson managed to find a formation to fit the players he had available. We wasted a decade trying to figure out how to play Gerrard and Lampard together. Now we go to a tournament with a bunch of centre forwards and one feckless kid to cross it to them.
They could both start if he had the nuts to leave out the fat twat up front ! Nothing wrong with playing Kane and Vardy up top together, with either Alli or Lallana playing behind them.Trouble is he's never gonna drop Rooney, hence everyone else is forced to play out of their best positions.I'm afraid until this changes it can only end badly !
I think you're right that he seems to be trying to please Rooney too much. But I disagree that Vardy the kane can play together in that diamond shape. They were both terrible last night and looked like fish out of water. This wouldn't change whoever plays at the tip of the diamond. My lad was there last night and he said Rooney's movement was excellent whilst Vardy and kane were terrible with theirs. We need to play Rooney behind kane with Lallana and Alli either side of him. Play Wilshire and Dier in front of the back four and there you have it. Roy is in danger of ****ing up a very promising England squad.
We also did it to the brilliant Scholes. I had hoped Roy was getting it right but I fear I may have been wrong.
Luongo not playing for Australia or on the extended bench either. Is he injured, dropped....or on holiday. Anyone know please log in to view this image
Found out...Luongo.not gone to Australia as expecting his first child imminently. Good planning for yourself and for QPR... Well played sir!!!
Croatia score 10 against the mighty San Marino, France spanking the Jocks 3-0 at present and Holland continuing their good form in Austria winning 2-0. Their last four games, all away to Euro qualifiers have been wins at England, Poland and Austria and a draw in Ireland, found their form too late...
Anybody watching any of the Copa America? It is on Setanta Sports over here if anybody has access. Currently watching a replay of a game played last night (I think) between Argentina and Chile. Both Vargas and Isla started the game. Vargas was subbed after about an hour and one of the Argies goals deflected in off Isla. Not an own goal but it took a deflection off him. Score after 72 minutes is 2-0 for the Argies.
Big congrats to the England Women's team, after back-to-back 7-0 victories over Serbia that all but guarantees their place in next summer's European Championships. Serbia were very poor, however they took seven points from their first four matches and had a positive goal difference going into the England games. So they have some ability, just nowhere near enough to challenge the English, I guess...
