The average cost of a ticket to watch top-flight football in England this season is £31, Premier League research has found. The research also shows 56% of all tickets sold cost £30 or less. The prices includes children's tickets and those sold via membership schemes. "These figures will go a long way to busting some of the myths perpetrated about the cost of attending," said Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore. The information was generated by all 20 Premier League clubs providing the cost of every ticket sold or available this season. It comes before the BBC's annual Price of Football study, which is published on Thursday, 17 November. (Source: BBC Football website) Not sure if anyone has picked up on this new - and apologies if they have - but I found the bit about 56% of tickets costing £30 or less. It would be interesting to see what the average price of that 56% is. Of course, if we were to take the price of AFC tickets out of the equation, the average price would probably fall to a far more respectable level.
The league have agreed to limit away fan tickets to £30 or less, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. West Ham giving thousands away every week probably helps, too.
I think my first adult price was 1/6d.....and my first wage packet as a 15 year old office boy was 3 pounds 15 shillings.(1956).
Still more expensive that a lot of matches on the continent though (100 euros for a Porto season ticket anyone? On a par with Sutton United). Also lets not talk about the price of a pie or those football tops made for 15p in some Bangladeshi sweatshop.
Michael Jordan is making millions advertising his Haines underwear.Aren't they made in sweatshops in Nicuaguar (did I spell that right?). I bet he has problems sleeping worrying about it......
Wonder how much impact of Villa and Newcastle going down to the Championship has had on the average ticket price as well. You would imagine that those clubs ticket prices would be higher than those of the clubs that replaced them. Birmingham and Newcastle are probably more expensive places to live than Burnley and Teeside and being more 'established' Premiership sides would probably have higher prices.
Newcastle will pay higher priced tickets at the moment. Why? They are top of their league AND WINNING!
