Thank God the only rationing I have to deal with is on the rare occasion the Mrs has a head ache, cob on !
It's mad to compare then to now where we can just pick up the phone and have all sorts of goodies delivered to our doors, no queing or shortages anymore if you can't be arsed hunting for it in town !

I was born and bred in the Gower and we had a Ford prefect for a number of years and then a Humber Wolseley. We had a farm which the female mostly ran with my Grandad and the males were either down the pit or in the forces with one uncle driving Buses for the United Welsh. We eventually sold the farm when my Grandad died and bought two houses in penclawdd where I grew up.....Happy days. Buses were not frequent down the Gower and you had to plan your day if you were going to use them... Welsh was the No1 language spoken by everyone....

If he had got that bus from Rhosilli he would only just be pulling into Halifax West Yorkshire about now.

My friend passed his test in a Humber Super Snipe. My brother had a Sunbeam Rapier ( what a car that was) which he allowed me to polish as i was just a kid. the cars that were in fashion when I was a teen were the Cortina 1600 E and the Escort RS 2000 ( which are changing hands for up to £40k now)

I have owned 12 1600 E which wasn't hard back in the day , my newest at the time was 12 years old ,it needed new sills new floor pan chassis rails and wheel arches , that was typical at the time ,crap metal for the day with no attempt at applying anti corrosion in the manufacturing process .At present I own a BMW which is 30 years old , no rust anywhere .<whistle>

The old cars had character. I remember you used to see people in their Morris Travelers at the side of the road with picnic tables and chairs out on the grass. The old Armstrong Siddeley with suicide doors and running boards.

My old dad used to work hiring the deck chairs out at Caswell Bay.I'd head there after school and collect the deposit tickets people had left on the chairs.

This was painted on Kilvey hill and you could see it as you came into Swansea from Neath....I'm not sure but I think the students had something to do with it...

Kilvey would be a great spot for something original to make it stand out like the Hollywood sign, white horse of york and others ?
Maybe a huge dragon sculpture or a white swan or an amazing castle tourist attraction. cable car linked down to new tram system, with the will of the people and right funding and council backing and imagination the possibilities are huge !
Oh for some wealthy visionary to see the potential ! So come on Dai make it happen mun !! <laugh>

After reading this thread, being 27 doesn't seem quite so bad! We must rack up a fair few years with our posters on here.
