Just doesn't add up for me. Could it be that RD has fabricated this story, in the hope that it fetches out serious interested parties.?
I don't believe for a second they are struggling to raise money for the takeover. They certainly wouldn't be give a period of exclusivity without proof of funds.
What do you think of their proposed business model for running the football side? Sending us young players from Boca Juniors would be one thing - but Melbourne Socceroos ?
I am not sure how that works as they don't own any other clubs. Work permits would also be a problem for youngsters.
Work permits only ever seem to be a problem for Charlton, other clubs can sign foreign youngsters without any trouble .... Tim Cahil is a case in point, I think he was at us before he signed for Millwall
Murray loves the ££'s just as much as RD. I believe he was always motivated to get any money he invested into the Club back, plus profit. By no means did his actions, even in the PL suggests he was doing everything for the "love of Charlton". We've had to become a complete mess of a club for the majority to see this. He passed the "baton" over to these owners.
Squirrel face said that Varney allegedly wanted to move us, and the Belgians wanted us to be protected from that. Well it looks to me if there is any truth in this bid then the Belgians will ultimately want to shaft us and get us out of The Valley.
Early days yet, but nothing we are hearing gives any confidence that the downward spiral will be reversed.
They really don't know us at all, do they? We shed blood, sweat and tears to get the Valley back, can they not understand that is a massive part of our identity? One if the reasons we are so invested, and passonate, is because we've always had to fight for what we've got. I think for a lot of us the Valley is THE representation of the club. Owners, managers and players come and go, but that is our little patch of grass.
It's all got a little bit malicious hasn't it? Don't know how the FA top brass sleep at night to be honest.
I can't see how this works. We are only really worth 20mil with the valley. Without it - where does that figure come from? Squad is worth 1/10th of that 20mil. Training ground is up in the air - without the improvements I'd hazard a guess at perhaps 3mil?
Potential - if the club was run properly. Proximity to the city & growth areas in Kent. Owners know that a well run Charlton even in the upper echelons of the Championship will get 25,000 plus. Compared to the other London clubs, I would argue that we are still bigger even now than Fulham & QPR and certainly Millwall and Brentford.
The biggest carrot is Premier League riches, surely? That's been Duchatelets biggest and most obvious failing; someone said in this thread he had been a savvy businessman with his asset stripping, but his lack of footballing acumen meant that for what would have been a modest investment he missed out on billions.
The deal is incredibly high risk then if it's based on potential. If promotion bids don't go to plan and season ticket money is offsetting rent - where's the income? The valley, in the modern era, has been a contingency to owners. God forbid, but they have an asset that commands a pretty penny should the worse happens. This deal, as is proposed, makes zero sense to me.
The more I think about it, the more this seems like an opening salvo in negotiations. There has to be more than the small details left. More likely RD is probably trying to drive the price up and squeeze out as many £'s as he can - only a few months ago figures of £80m were being bandied about. The £20m figure could just be a tactic to entice potential buyers. I'm with Super on this, it makes zero sense.
