So it looks like Duchatelet is trying to spite us, by selling the Club as we all wanted - but keeping the Valley and then leasing it back to a new owner. I cannot see any circumstances in which effectively separating the stadium (historic & much loved in our case) from the club, will end well. And what else could Duchatelet's motive for keeping the Valley be, other than London property prices development at a later stage. We all laughed at the derisory £20m selling fee - I for one am not laughing now.
Is RD Ken Bates in disguise. If you hear Teak Investments are involved get in those taxis and across to Belgium quick, then beg RD to stay.... This sell the club and lease the ground plan was where our troubles really got serious....
20M is a hell of a lot of money for a third division Club without owning the Valley. Old yellow teeth retaining the Valley and leasing it to the new owners would, in my opinion, be a disaster. One of the ex directors said that Paul Elliott's consortium offered 30M for the Club, an offer which was turned down by the Club. I wonder if they will come back with another offer?
Say the Aussies did buy the club from Duchatelet- and it didn't work out. Quite possible given their apparent business model for Charlton seems to contain a number of large assumptions. Can you imagine just how unattractive a purchase Charlton would be to the owner-after-that, if Duchatelet owned the Valley ? It would make what happened in the 80s with the Sunleys look like a Teddy Bears picnic in comparison.
Surely depends on whether RD is making retaining the Valley a condition of sale. RE reckons the Valley is worth around £12m in its own right. Elliot's interest might be in the club and the ground.
and the new Australian owners are not that bothered about owning the Club's ground which suggests a short term agenda.... bit like the Douch's was when he bought the Club
Horrible choice - Duchatelet stays, & club and Valley remain together Duchatelet "sells" - keeps ground, club & Valley seperate again just like 80s
So what does 20m buy them? No ground (and the possibility of price rises on the lease) or training ground, and the Douch has clearly pocketed the cash from Lookman, our last real big fish. So the name, the badge, some very average footballers, and an urgent overhaul of the entire football structure. I can't see an logic to this. Tangible assets in the deal are what exactly?
Bexley boy, they haven't bought the Club yet. I will be going to the Valley on Monday with Reams and Williamson.
If RD sees a pot of gold for himself at the end of the rainbow then anything's possible, but none of this makes a lot of sense from a buyers point of view. What's in it for them.?
But it's always been about ££ for him. As his stooge Murray said so recently, "Roland hasn't fallen in love with Charlton". We hear now that RD is willing to offer a potential buy back of the Valley "when we reach the Premier League" - fools gold. With new owners struggling to raise the £20m asking price, and with a football business model which sees them send us untested Aussie players as their new London feeder club. The whole thing unravels on a number of levels.
