1) A new manager wastes money on transfers; don't let him. 2) Use the wisdom of the crowds. 3) Stars of recent World Cups or European Championships are overvalued; ignore them. 4) Certain nationalities are overvalued. 5) Older players are overvalued (Clough and Taylor). 6) Center forwards are overvalued; goalkeepers are undervalued. 7) Gentlemen prefer blonds: identify and abandon "sight based prejudices". 8) The best time to buy a player is when he is in his early twenties. 9) Sell any player when another club offers more than he is worth (Clough and Taylor). 10) Replace your best players even before you sell them. 11) Buy players with personal problems, and then help them deal with their problems (Clough and Taylor). 12) Help your players relocate. These come from the the recent book (2009) "SOCCERNOMICS". Lots of other gems as well. Some of these rules hit close to home. Not suggesting anything, but we've broken a few and we've followed a few. Interested what everyone thinks. Authors of the book are writers for the Financial Times and a Professor of Economics from the Cass Business School in London. Probably couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag, but they did a hell of a lot of impressive research. SO...Big Question. How have Sunderland done in the last two windows? Good buys? Interesting one, I must not be a gentleman, cos I dont care what her hair colour is , as for the rest, these guys raise a few good points, but not everyone is a genius, so people being people, we sometimes get things wrong, managers make mistakes also.
ha...luckily i'm not the real wrath of the big bad paul. we could use him right about now, sticking his head in defending set pieces. anyways, these lists or "secrets" aren't for everyone. personally, i eat this stuff up. can't get enough.
