John Beresford was a great player for us. In my opinion, he was decent defensively and excellent offensively. Having Ginola in front of him limited his greatest strength (going forward) and put huge pressure on him defensively as Ginola was of next to no use in that department. Philippe Albert, standing inside Beresford, hardly helped his cause either.
Warren Barton, on the other hand... Again, he was very strong offensively, but was all at sea defensively and cost us numerous goals by giving the ball away in dangerous positions. For me, Beresford was twice the player.

I agree on most points and to a certain extent on the last point. However Barton after a torturous beginning with us, ended up a very solid defender. He did drop some absolute clangers in his early days with us though. To be honest we were spoilt with players like Albert, Cole, Ferdinand, Solano, Robert, Lee, Ginola, Beardsley, Shearer and Speed. We had a number of superb players through the late 90's and early 2000's.

Guys like Darren Peacock, Beresford, Barton, Venison, Kilcline, Sellars, Allen, Fox, Gallacher, Clark, Bernard, Howey, Carr were not world beaters but all had really good solid spells for us.

I remember a game against Everton where Billy (fairly by the rules back then) shoulder barged a player clean off the pitch from a few yards inside the touchline. Think it might have been Kevin Ratcliffe? Hilarious.

I noticed quite a few of the names mentioned so far in this thread were players brought in by Dalglish. He really did screw us over, especially when you think those misfits were meant to replace the likes of Beardo,Tino, Sir Les and Ginola, who all left the summer after he took over.

Two of Bill McGarry's finest in Mark McGhee (mk1) and Mike Larnach.
    Proper relegation fodder.

14 budgerigars (all standing in a row) once told me that Jimmy is the closest thing they'd seen to a donkey in a Toon shirt.

I'm fine mate, just having a break for a while. <ok>
I thought I'd leave it until Nev updated the Predictions League, and then it dawned on me that I'd NEVER be back.
    You ok...

I've not seen him for a while, but, I take it he's still wearing them.
Seriously sickly colour gear, but, he's good craic.
    Hopefully, a good night...<ok>

    Gives me an idea though!

If I said that I wasn't going to come back until Nev updated the prediction league then everyone would stop moaning about no updates!!!

you may have noticed I like to remind everyone about your ineptitude / laziness, even though I'm not actually playing in the prediction league. Just fun to get everyone on your back. <laugh>
