1: GET RID OF YOUR DEBT : .Even when Swansea( 2002) took over from Petty we were 2,400,0000 pounds in the hole . We didn't have anything to sell really so Jenkins and the clan played tough with creditors offering 5% of what was owed . When the creditors accepted the offer on March 25 , 2002 we still owed 640,000 pounds to Inland Revenue and football creditors ( I assume ) . So it seems all other creditors lost about 1,600,000 pounds . We've taken a lot of flak because these were " small business ", for the most part ..people around the area who were owed a lot for services rendered . If we were under the rules of the day we would have been deducted points and seeing we finished 5th from bottom that season would have dropped out of the Leagues . At the same time , I wonder how much of the money owed to those creditors was overhead and how much was profit for services rendered , maybe even penalties and interest . Along with how much profit was made by these " Home " businesses long before we didn't START RUNNING A DEBT
2: SURROUND YOURSELF SMART BUSINESS PEOPLE WHO ARE FANS .Jenkins(Builder ) 12.5 % , David Morgan 5% (Insurance ) , Robert Davies 10% ( Treasurer under a different owner ) Mel Nurse ( former player and business man ) Leigh Dineen ( vending machine business ) In a move of brilliance IMO , they endowed the Supporters trust with 20% to show they cared about the club . Finally Martin Morgan 22.5% ( local business man ) and Brian Katzen ( entrepreneur , specializing in turning companies around , bet ya he came in handy ) joined the team
3: GET OWNERS TO PUT REAL MONEY INTO THE CLUB . Anybody can make " Petty " promises about putting money in but they rarely do .
Huw and the clan payed the rest of that 640,000 debt off and before reaching the promised land put another 1,500,000 million in ..big money for a little club
4: GET THE LOCAL COVERMENT TO BUILD A STADIUM : There was a lot of humming and hawing toward building a stadium when guys like Petty were running things but the shear fact that HUW and the gang got a supporters trust involved seemed to be the catalyst for finally getting one .IMO
5: CHOOSE GREAT MANAGERS : And we were rolling in them since Huw and the boys took over , and it kept us on course for good seasons with little money .
6 : GET THE FANS OUT : We averaged 4,000 fans per game for years before the 2002 take over , norm for League 2 and League 1 on the average , but after the takeover we rose for 6 or so straight seasons, still in League 1 and League 2 , to 10,000 fans , 60% more than the average team . The trust involved with the club was directly responsible for those extra 6,000 supporters coming out .
7: last , but certainly not least , make it the the Premier . For all the good work that was done , we were still in a financial mess till we reached the Premier .. 16,000,000 pounds in the hole .In 2002 wages took up 90% of our revenue , and in 2010 it took up 82% of our revenue .
when we reached the Premier our revenue went from 19 million to 104 million , an 18 million loss became a 29 million profit .
Most of this comes from a guy named Stefan Szymanski who I,ve read a bit of late and will continue to do .
