I agree, I said the same seasons ago under Bruce, but it is to much of a sweeping statement not to accept that there is influence from and through the player.

I doubt that Tom is instructed not to push up, but we rarely see him do it; he seems more comfortable using his excellent passing ability, rather than carrying when needed.

There are times when he is wrongly used to play possession and this breaks down attacks rather than creates them. There are also times when he plays football that is simply sublime; it just isn't consistent enough for PL, but a new manager might put a team together that brings that out on a regular basis. If Len can do that then we have a midfielder, who, if paired with an energetic attack - with end product - will be key to promotion. Tom has the ability and potential, does Len have the nous. TWT, as Tickles used to say.

 

What we'd do for an Ashbee/ Barmby/ Jay-Jay
