Absolute ****ing tune this. I'm also a massive fan of Maceo Parker and Bootsie Collins is one of my bass heroes The JB's had a huge influence on funk, soul and then latterly on hip hop as loads of artists sampled them.
There's another Lynn Collins tune called 'what do I have to do' that features one of the best Maceo solos ever. It's short and sweet but it kicks I'll post it up latwr when I finish work
I seem to spend a lot of my time pottering around the house speaking in a Bootsy Collins voice. I've got it down. I ****ing love, LOVE, with all my heart Bobby Byrds voice.
Bootise oozes the funk, even if he tried he couldn't not be funky. I think that Marva Whitney tune is on that JB's funky people album that you've posted with the Bobby Bryd tune.
It was Marva Whitney. I think the full title track is called 'what do I have to do to prove my love to you'
I saw Maceo Parker play live in Plymouth a few years ago. He was playing with UK trombone player Dennis Rollins. I play in a funk band and we had a gig at shambala festival that summer. Got chatting to Dennis Rollins after the gig about funk etc and told him about the gig. He was like 'oh yeah I'll be there too' so I said to him that he should come and play a song with us, thinking no more of it. Anyway, he turned up at our gig and came on stage and played the bone on a cover of gimme some more that we do. ****ing unbelievable moment to play with such a esteemed jazz musician. In my head I was like 'do not **** this song up, that's ****ing Dennis Rollins on the trombone'
Anyway, here's a short vid of Dennis Rollins playing with Maceo Parker, the sound quality isn't the best unfortunately
