Off Topic The old farmhouse.......Update 14th April 2017

It really is a great pub, an 'old school boozer' so to speak rather than the ****ty chain pubs you see everywhere now.

 

I've only been in there once or twice and was August 2016, had just been taken over by new owners (or was going through). Been meaning to go back for a while but not got round to it... will have to soon

 

The Old Farmhouse is owned by Enterprise Inns. They are probably looking at the lease contract depending on whether Barry had the lease as just his name or plus wife/partner.

My mate works for them, at a fairly senior level so I will ask him what the plans for it are. I suspect they'll be looking for a new landlord/lease owner.

 

Sounds like that dream mid-life-crisis move for you, mate!

 

When we went the other day......We got there at exactly mid day............There was an Iron grid across the door and it had a works vehicle (small tipper) outside it. Apart from another Car with the previously mentioned markings on it. I will be down that way again sometime next week I will go round and see if there is any change.........

Called the Chapel Arms now. Always packed on match day as I walk that way to the stadium

I have to agree that the Guide Dog is the best pub in the city and one that I use fairly regularly. Just a cautionary note getting a seat on match days, (pre match), can prove difficult unless you arrive early. Equally post match is busy.. but the choice, quality and price of the beer is unquestionably excellent. If you buy it by the jug it's even cheaper..

 

I like jugs.

 

Update March 18th 2017
Thought some of you might like to know I popped down to the old Farmhouse to have a look round. It is still iron gated but I did read some of the notices in the windows. It would seem that the old Farmhouse is still going to be a pub. There was a notice in the window stating that an application had been made to Southampton City council on the 3rd of March 2017 for a slight change to its licensing hours. It stated it wanted to be allowed to close at Midnight at Weekends.
So.............. possibly great news for some. I spoke to a local and she said she understood from her husband it was reopening early April...certainly before Easter!!
Not sure how accurate that info is....but.....it may well be open for our next home game.........Watch this space!!!...........
