Not a fan of Anderson's analysis there. Whilst he takes out the last 2 laps to account for drivers taking it easy, he doesn't seem to account for how hard they were pushing. There was a spell towards the end where Raikkonen did the fastest lap seemingly just to show their hand to Ferrari to tell Alonso not to bother pushing, but in the interviews afterwards Raikkonen suggested he still had performance in hand.

Also, he doesn't seem to account for drivers being stuck behind others, like Di Resta getting stuck behind a slower Mclaren due to strategy.

Agreed. He discounts starting positions, (presumably this is the time taken to cover the distance between gridslots) but doesn't account for time lost in traffic, how much did Kimi lose getting past Hamilton? How much time did Alonso lose stuck behind Vettel and Massa? And Massa behind Vettel? And Vettel behind Sutil? What did Hamilton lose by staying out until his tyres were down to the canvas?

His number crunching articles really irritate me, they're amateurish and provide no insight at all. Such a waste of talent him working for the BBC. :(

I also disliked the way he said he included "a couple of other factors" in his calculations. If you're going to write something masquerading as a scientific analysis, you should at least be completely clear in what you've done. Still, if it was him or His Bensonness, I know who I'd rather read. I just feel engineering and aerodynamics is where Anderson excels, not number crunching. If I had access to the amount of data he does (I can't find a complete set of lap-times for everyone anywhere) and was getting paid to do so, I'm sure I could produce comparable analysis with excel.

Completely agree. I used to love reading his pre-season analysis of the new cars when he worked for Autosport.

What do we really expect? All/Most articles on the Beeb, with regards to F1 will get the "Benson" twist

I don't understand how he has his fingers in every pie. It seems the only journalists the BBC have on F1 are Benson, and whoever gets the joy of doing the live text in the middle of the night.

I maintain that between us we could run a site with comparable quality and quantity of F1 content. Even the mock articles that get put up in F1 games, etc, tend to be pretty well written, and when somebody properly goes for a topic, we get some very decent stuff. Silver's up-to-the-minute reporting would be a miss, but we still regularly get news here from a variety of sources long before the BBC. If we were to take a slightly off-beat approach unlike the straight-laced Beeb, Autosport, etc, we could actually produce something a bit different and worth reading. Whilst we might not have Anderson's technical knowledge, we still have discussions at a similar level, particularly from Cosi and Forza.

    Too right..
I'd be happy to front the "comedy cartoon" section for our proposed site opposing the Beeb..
However, I can't draw to save my life and my jokes aren't much better, still be better than the offering Benson would come up with!

Did you ever see the cartoons the telegraph produced when they were banned from having a photographer at the cricket? They were hilarious, I'll see if I can dig them out, but they'd be a great style to aim for.

Mine is substantially bigger than yours, you might want to reconsider that decision :p:p

Anyway, here are the cartoons. I don't normally frequent the telegraph site, was simply shown them by a cricket-mad friend.

Yeah, as soon as I posted it I thought it looked considerably like that. I can't be bothered to correct it though.

    I like Jonny's cartoon!

Personal gripe: I prefer the English spelling of 'flavour' but accept your 'error' if you live in an error prone country!

So do I.. I blame my job (do everything on a laptop..), can't remember the last time I used a pen in anger.. (further blame apportioned to automatic spell checkers and my dyslexia!)
