...... Is now Donald Trump ! If you thought #brexit was a wake up call for the Political Elite it was nothing compared to what has just happened in the USA. Fasten your seatbelts folks the world is about to change forever !
Living in the Philippines we are having to come to terms with Duterte as the new leader. Trump could well "trump" him in wild unpredictability. Interesting, if alarming, times ahead.
Not sure what I think about it but out of the two candidates, Trump would have got my vote. Not that I particularly like him but I just trust HC less. Are those two really the best that could rise to power in such a vast country? I find that quite bewildering. Much of the lead up was a close mirror image to Brexit, with polls showing Clinton 10 points or more ahead just a week or so ago, and just like Brexit was believed to be a figure plucked out of thin air to try and discourage Trump supporters to go out and actually vote.
If I wasn't sobbing uncontrollably, I'd find this hilarious - twitter theft I think the biggest winner after tonight will be Melania Trump who can finally call herself the first lady instead of the third wife.
Trump mocks disabled people, is a racist, homophobic, misogyny and xenophobia I struggle to understand why anyone would vote or support that. I know Clinton is far from perfect, but she's the better option than him.
I have to say I agree with all of that. I understand the protest vote and why you really wouldn't want to vote for Clinton, but for him! Bah!
Choosing between Trump and Clinton was like choosing what kind of **** you want in your sandwich........ ....that said I'm sure things won't be as bad as people seem to enjoy predicting.
I loved this tweet - BRITAIN: Brexit is the stupidest, most self-destructive act a country could undertake. USA: Hold my beer. Edit - actually, I think this one is even better - 'Google searches for 'nuclear shelter' have skyrocketed since Trump beat Clinton in one of the ugliest election races of all time.'
Just seen this analysis:- 231,556,622 eligible voters 46.9% didn't vote 25.6% voted for Clinton 25.5% voted for Trump 1.7% voted for Johnson
Patrick Galey @patrickgaley Notable deaths 2016: - David Bowie - Prince - Muhammad Ali - pollsters - facts-based arguments - liberal democracy - Toblerone
I would have voted for Hills but it's too early to condemn The Donald, give him a year and see how it pans out. Best bit is how all those Christians voted for someone so obviously an Atheist.
Nearly half that country didn't vote????? That's shocking, what a load of un-educated idiots! Now look what they've got!
This from twitter, hence can't vouch for accuracy / authenticity, but George Takei @GeorgeTakei Popular vote: Hillary: 59,236,903 votes Donald: 59,085,787 votes The people elected Hillary, the system elected Donald
Pretty much like our pathetic system of 'first past the post'. I don't see us ever moving to 'proportional representation', but we'd have a completely different mix of MPs in Parliament. After the last election, the Tories would still win, but you'd have MPs from the likes of the Greens, UKIP, etc
If I was American I could not have voted for either. I would have voted for an independent as a protest against both of them!
