Are the royals good for Britain ,or are they now an outdated idea
Spending taxpayers money? or bringing in money for business?
    Good or Bad

Outdated - they are just a wealthy family whose wealth has been created by this country. Just a bunch of leeches that should sling their hooks back to Germany.....

If the monarchy went, would that mean the end of the Commonwealth Games? It's the only major international sporting event (apart from the Island Games) where our athletes don't have to try to gain places in the Britsh team.

Also, if you were the head of a charity and wanted a patron to enhance your profile, which would you go for - a member of royalty or an MP?

Good thing, they generate ALOT of tourist money and we would just end paying for the upkeep off the palaces etc anyway.

Not sure about the german comment above seems about sixty years out of date!

That sort of thing has no place in a reasonable government.

Agreed, Norway. But in a perfect government, I certainly wouldn't want arbitrary 'royal' families having statutory powers!

Amount of fuss about this wedding is pathetic. I'm betting that in your local newsagents, the Norwegian version of 'Hello' magazine has Will and Kate on the front page?

I mean it would be rude not to cushion her fall. She'd probably need some post traumatic stress relief too, and you can't refuse that to a damsel in distress.

On the one hand, I'm being told that "I have to do it tough, we're all in this together" and on the other I'm expected to contribute to the obscene cost of somebody else's wedding without a whimper.

I'm not privy to facts and figures on how having a royal family is/isn't beneficial to the country - but I simply consider them to be an anachronism, unneccessary and probably an overly expensive luxury. I can't see them doing it tough and didn't see them contribute to my wedding either :emoticon-0112-wonde

Time to sell them off to the Yanks I say.

As someone from an entirly different culture I think the queen is good. The large royal family perhaps is not. The queen and here palaces and castles make a lot of money for the country. I am sure that all the tax your government takes from tourists and people employed as a result is much more than the royal family is paid.
When I go to Frakkland Þýskaland or Ítalía I do not go to the presidents house to have a look. In England Holland and other countries with a royal family I would go to see their palaces.
