Do you think he's done a good job this season then? Honestly? I stand by it, he's a terrible, terrible manager. As I said on another post at the time - which strangely people keep forgetting to quote - I'd fully expect Steve Evans or indeed Iain Dowie to get that squad promoted this season.

Last time they were at this level under Hughton they streaked away and finished the season unbeaten at home. This time, with riches only Villa in the division can touch, they've limped over suffering way too many defeats in the process.

Massively underachieved. FACT.

 

Villa had virtually unlimited funds and two good managers and have floundered. Some people are falling into the mersen trap here.

It's a difficult league that any manager, who has regularly operated in the top tier, will need to adapt to; the same can be said for players. On that basis I believe Benitez and his team have done well.

It is not insignificant that Hughton has done it again. I reminded posters, way back, that Brighton should not be ignored under Hughton and that has been proven correct. I don't believe Hughton's excellent achievement should be diminished in an attempt to prove an earlier point of view that is now shown to be laughingly poor.

 

Who has tried to do that?

 

That the championship is a tough league and no one just walks through it at the first attempt even with huge funds. I thought my point was obvious. Benitez has done a brilliant job for them.

'A brilliant job'? Before this season started, if you'd asked every football fan in the country who would win the Championship, I expect 90% plus would say Newcastle. Maybe a lot higher than that. So to not achieve that yet claim he's done 'a brilliant job' is baffling to say the least.

I stand by his record, he has done appallingly everywhere he has been since Liverpool, which was ****ing ages ago now. If you want to disagree then show me the FACTS.

Most people had us going up automatically last season as well. Most people are idiots. Rely on straw polls if you want though. They've gone up automatically with games to spare, beyond that it's academic.
