Currently watching BBC programme about Gareth Edwards 70th birthday and his life. Just shown THE best try ever being Gareth's try for the Barbarians against the All Black's back in 1973. Remember watching it at the time and have never seen a try better than it since.

Any one have any other childhood memories of watching a great sporting event/incident other than a footballing one.

The early 1970's Welsh rugby team were one of the best teams in any sport I can ever remember seeing especially the back line.

That's the greatest try ever, being an ex scrum half I love the way Gareth Edwards keeps up with play and sprints through at the end. Great commentary on it as well.

Not even a fan of rugby league (I follow Union) but this try was something impressive:

Though my favourite spell of any sport ever was this:

I watched Caddick take 4 wickets in an over vs the West Indies but this over by Flintoff was, in the context of the history of the game and the position of the series and quality of who he was bowling to, something else. Arguably the greatest batsman in the world and Ponting was not only dismissed but basically put his hands up and said "that was too good for me".

I did like Flintoff as he reminded me a bit of my hero, Botham. Probably the second best all rounder ever. The best for me had to be Gary Sobers.

Not an over but a spell of 28 balls.

The Headingley Ashes Test in 1981 must be one of the greatest sporting moments ever. I wasn't there but was doing my MSc in Newcastle at the time and remember we were in the lab listening on the radio when Willis switched to bowling down the hill. To take 8-43 when the opposition only need less than a 100 was incredible.
The greatest sporting moment I missed was that Saturday evening athletics session at the 2012 olympics when Ennis, Rutherford and Farah won gold medals al within a 1hr period. Had tickets for me and the Mrs and we gave them to her Indonesian relatives who were over. Took them there then watched on the big screens outside. Twats left early because they were tired and missed it!

The greatest try I've ever seen was probably Keegan's attempt at the league title in 1996.

Weeeeee'll drink a drink a drink to Eric The King...

I'll reserve judgement on any Spanish signings until I've seen them a few times after having our fingers burnt with Iberian imports too many times before.

I wonder if the fans will do something special for the new Spanish lads like when they wore berets and strings of onions with all those French imports a few years ago. Get the curly moustaches drawn on, wear sombreros, and sing La Bamba - that sort of thing.
