Barton called himself a near Kamikaze personality.

I remember the two used to get compared a lot when Holt was at Norwich, and both sets of fans argued over who was better. Pretty clear looking back it was Sir Rickie. Even C. Mackail-Smith used to get compared to our Rickie by Posh fans.

Inevitable that Holt and Rickie would be compared. Rival clubs at the time and the players club history. I believe they took it all in good humour. Mackail-Smith was an odd one. For a purple-patch season or two he couldn't stop scoring. Even got him playing for Scotland.

Barton is the type of person, who could end up getting shot, so they may have something else in common.

You remember several years ago when a bit of talk was bandied around that Saints might sign Lee Trundle.? Well, now he's 40, been retired, come out of it and signed for a local Welsh team Llanelli Town and he's been banging the goals in. 45 in 26 matches so far: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39740587

Well they've kept that quiet down here as I had no idea and I'm only a few miles from Llanelli!

Dunno where the Fifa scandal(s) thread is:

"He sits on Fifa's audit and compliance committee as well as the ethics committee of the Asian Football Confederation."

I remember when we played Norwich and both were playing. Holt missed a sitter and all of St Mary's sung "You're just a **** Rickie Lambert" :) That chant along with the "Johnstone's Paint Trophy, you'll never win that" always makes me chuckle.

My favourite chant though in the last few years was just after we lost J Rod to injury and we played Everton at home. They scored two own goals. The Northam end sung "Who needs Rodriguez, we've got your back four" :)

A few weeks ago Leicester fans were lambasted for their behaviour in the Spanish capital, taking on the riot police. Seems to be a common theme for tonight on the BBC website there is a photo of the same riot police getting right into the Bayern fans, who as far as I know are not reknowned for thuggish behaviour. Going back to February the Spanish riot police surrounded the Cypriot fans as they made their way to the San Memes stadium in Bilbao. Just a thought but do Spanish riot police encourage the visiting fans to react in a certain manner so they can then enjoy themselves lashing out at all and sundry?

More likely they are the remnants of Franco's regime.
