The General Football Thread

Following the trend of abbreviations. "United" (West Ham United), City (Exeter City), Rovers (Tranmere), Inter (Internazionale), Bayern, Bayer (Leverkussen) and the need to Google the full name when writing a comment when a game is in progress or has just finished.

 

But the place name is Mönchengladbach. "Borussia" is the equivalent of United, City, etc.

 

We were better than both those teams and don't you tell me any different. Or make comments about them being the teams that got through and you can't argue with the table.

The Olympiakos v Besiktas tie could be rather volcanic.

We were better than both of them. Had Milan been able to hang on to a 2-2 with 91 mins on the clock our Be'er friends would have had to come to play football. But I'm not unhappy about it, I actually enjoyed the games & am mighty proud of being in the group stage. Also, we have a chance at a cup final now, & with Bestikas in the build up I think it would have proven too difficult to juggle. Lets do this.

Indeed we were. And if we had not taken until this January to remember that it takes a high quality strikeforce to consistently score goals and hence win matches, it would almost certainly have been Saints and not Sparta or Hapoel in the KO.

 

To be fair, if I had to trot out that full name every time I wanted to comment during a match, I'd probably use whatever the forum used in the moment. Or even more probably 'B-MGB'.

 

On Vardy's tackle on Virgil. I saw it again the other night, while watching a repeat of the Leicester game. Barely any contact. Makes me wonder whether Virgil had an ongoing problem. I might watch that bit again to see if I missed anything.
