There is much talk about how we are to move forward. There are, however, many variables. Whilst we know that we will be in the Championship next year (no drop to the Conference) there is still the high probability of a fine. This, in turn, may impact on the money available to purchase players. There will be some players that will be sold almost immediately. This will help with the money situation. We still have no word on who the manager will be come September (hopefully no later than June). But we have the opportunity to "start again" almost from scratch. With the number of signings that will need to be made the manager/management team will have the ideal opportunity to build without having to think about what they do with an army of overpaid players. With that in mind I have created a list of our playing staff and placed them in different, self evident groups. I have included a group of "good chance of being sold" although I expect we won't sell all. The difficulty lies with the number (8 in total) who will be in their final year of contract. This means they are more likely to be sold even if we would like them to stay but they will not agree a new contract and we don't want them off on a Bosman at the end of the year. I have done this list for myself, but thought that others might find it useful. If I have made any errors let me know and I can correct them. Out of Contract: Rio Ferdinand Shaun Wright-Phillips Joey Barton Alejandro Faurlin Karl Henry Bobby Zamora Richard Dunne Clint Hill Brian Murphy Michael Harriman (offered new contract) Frankie Sutherland (offered new contract) Brandon Comley (offered new contract) Ben Pattie (offered new contract) Bruno Andrade (let go) Jamie Sendles-White (let go) Jordan Gibbons (let go) Aaron Lennox (let go) Loan players leaving: Mauricia Isla Eduardo Vargas Niko Krancjar Mauro Zarate Good chance of being sold: Charlie Austin (1yr left on contract) Leroy Fer (2yrs left on contract) Matt Phillips (2yrs left on contract) Sandro (2yrs left on contract) Stephen Caulker (3yrs left on contract) Robert Green (1yr left on contract) Nedum Onuoha (1yr left on contract) Remainder: Alex McCarthy (3yrs left on contract) Yun Suk-young (1yr left on contract) Junior Hoilett (1yr left on contract) Jack Robinson (long term injury) (3yrs left on contract) Coll Donaldson (1yr left on contract) Ryan Manning (2yrs left on contract) Darnell Furlong (just signed new 2yr contract) Joe Lumley (just signed new 2yr contract) Max Ehmer (status unknown) Michael Doughty (status unknown) Reece Grego-Cox (2yrs left on contract) Michael Petrasso (status unknown) God knows: Armand Traore (1yr left on contract) Adel Taarabt (1yr left on contract) Samba Diakite (1yr left on contract) Interesting reading.
When it is laid out like that you can see the massive job that is ahead. Next to impossible to name the starting for 11 next season.
Les is going to have bring in load players, going to be very difficult. With ffp fine still be negotiated my guess is we will only start signing players later in summer than most clubs. God knows what our pre season squad is going to look like. Last year Arry said he only had 13 first team players on the pre season tour. CR will be lucky to have 8.
That is my biggest worry, the whole FFP fine will drag on and we will do the usual panic buying 2 weeks before the season starts.
Eye opener that Eamon, who ever takes over has got a job & half to sort that lot out & start a new team, should be interesting summer.
Gathered bits from all over the place then typed it out. Started with a list of out of contract players that was in an article a few weeks back, then went from there.
Despite the oncoming close season for footy, I fear that there will be a fair amount of activity with regard to the R's this summer with: - the FFP outcome - good players leaving ...and hopefully some signings and loans Let's relax, wait and see. I am sure it will nor be long before it all gets moving!
Donaldson not in the list? The list above certainly seems to vindicate the position that we'll not be back in the Premier League (or possibly even challenging for a top 6 place in the Championship) for a few years yet This doesn't unduly worry me so long as the time is taken to rebuild the club from the bottom up and to give us a sustainable QPR
An useful summary, Eamon. There are few certainties, but I would have thought Hoilett would be in the "Good chance of being sold" column, along with all three players in the "God Knows" category.
Hoilett, apart from a few good performances, particularly in the play off semi 2nd leg, has been very, very poor for us. I am willing to state here and now that if he goes to another Premier League or Championship team he will again look the player that was at Blackburn.
Depressing but maybe, just maybe, exciting too. An opportunity for the right man to do well over, say, three seasons in the championship.
