Heartbreaking story. Footballers and football clubs get a bad rap, often deserved but it's great to see them trying to make a difference. Credit to Sunderland, but also when they played Everton in September, Everton put £200k into the appeal fund for treatment for the lad in America, a great gesture especially considering he had no connection to Everton whatsoever.
In the Championship I don't think there is anyone better for the formation and style we play. Yes there are better strikers but Wood in this set up and team is just right as far as I am concerned.
I don't mind green. His communication and fundamentals are good and ultimately you have to look at how the back 5 work as a unit. He contributes to that. He's made some great saves and dropped some clangers. That's keepers for you. I'd like to see him command his area a bit more (Brighton was a bad day for that, but for the defence as a whole). Silvestri a better shot stopper, green a better alrounder and team player. His stats actually aren't that good in terms of saves to goals conceded compared to the championships other 'better' keepers but stats don't always tell the story.
Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has been banned for five matches and fined £100,000 (NZ$178,000) for racially abusing an opponent, the English FA said on Tuesday (Wednesday NZ time). Shelvey, 24, was charged with using abusive or insulting words towards Wolverhampton Wanderers' Moroccan midfielder Romain Saiss in a Championship match in September. "It was further alleged that this breach was an 'Aggravated Breach' as it included reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or nationality," the FA said. Shelvey, who denied the charge at an independent hearing, was ordered to attend an FA education course.
Ashley Fletcher? Ex scum not pulled up any trees at Ammers, but if it comes off I reckon he can score for fun in this league. Might even be a better loan move than Crouch
If Crouch can only muster up 10 mins for Stoke each week from the bench, IO'd say Fletcher was far a better bet...
