First, I am aware of the transfer thread. I made it. This is a more focused discussion on potential dutch signings. Ive selected 3 that I think could be just what we need. 1. Ron Vlaar - Cheap and experienced international. The Aston Villa captain could bring some much needed leadership to our calamity defence (conceded 1 less than the Bus that is Chelsea ). A star at the World Cup under United manager van Gaal he isn't without his injury problems so should fit right in. Pros - Experience, Strength, leadership Cons - Currently injured, stop gap 2. Kevin Strootman - van Gaal's favourite player while manager of the Dutch national team. The idea replacement for Carrick but with add ons. With him and Daley Blind likely to line up alongside each other for years at internatonal level we could we be onto one hell of a midfield combo here. Throw Herrera in and we have the DM, the B2B and the creator. A must by the summer at least. 3. Memphis Depay - What a player this lad is. As we all know, tearing up the Erdivise isn't exactly the mark of greatness but this chap seems to have that something special. Hes fast, scores goals, creates goals and has a cool name. What else could we want? Strootman and Depay are rumoured to be very close with van Gaal. van Gaal told Depay to stay at PSV a while longer which suggests we may already have an agreement, at least in principle and by all accounts, Strootman is held in a higher regard by van Gaal than even Robin van Pesie. So, what do we think to a dutch revolution at United? Especially if we get some of their best players.
Well once he's had a run down the wing and looked up for a man to cross to in the box he's going to be disappointed more often than not. RVP will either be retreating from an offside position or marginally ahead of Falcao and Mata just inside our own half.
Robben did alright with the statue that is van persie to be fair I know what you are saying though. We really do lack pace without Di Maria. I would welcome Depay for that reason or just bring Nani back for now.
Seriously? If you get all those signings then the future will look good, all very good technical players.
Guys been brilliant for sporting. Was treated harshly by moyes and van gaal has shown hes capable of turning players around.
Nani wont be coming back before the summer (if he comes back at all). The only thing we could do with Nani in January is offer him in some sort of swap deal for Carvalho. That's the only way he could be useful in this transfer window.
Regarding the dutch contingent, doesnt anyone worry that too many dutch players brings its own problems? Namely that they're all a hair's trigger away from imploding on each other? Bit volatile and I think that's always undone them as a nation in international competitions. The politics within a majority team of dutch players with a dutch manager worries me a little.
I'd have Vlaar in this window and that's it for now. I fail to see the need for Strootman at this time, we can't get Herrera in the team as it is and that's before Blind returns and without mentioning Fellaini. Although Fellaini really should be sold if I'm honest. With Di Maria, Young, Januzaj and Valencia we also have some width when and if required so, unless some are to be sold, Depay is also a luxury. If we get a centre half this window great. The rest should wait till summer I reckon.
But Nani was also useless under Fergie. He'd have 3 good games a season and some Utd fans would hail him as the second coming. He is not good enougn for Utd.
Well he has been and he hasnt been. Young and Valencia have turned it around. Neither of which are anywhere near Nani's level. Not saying it will happen or that we should give him a 10 year contract but as a stop gap until the summer he would be great. Hes got a new lease of life, much like United have. van Gaal will likely give him a chance regardless. Hes that kind of guy.
