These shots always remind me of a wonderful WW2 cartoon by (Joseph?) Lee of the "Evening News" in which he depicts a highly-decorated Battle of Britain pilot (in full uniform with huge row of ribbons) getting off a rollercoaster ride at a fairground somewhere. Lee has painted the guy's face green as he is about to throw-up! (The cartoon is buried somewhere in the British Cartoon Archives at the University of Kent. Can't find it anymore, unfortunately).
Note to the CEO of United Airlines! Should Joe Thomas, an offensive lineman for the Cleveland Browns, ever be on one of your flights, do not under any circumstances attempt to “re-accommodate” him. It would work out poorly for you. Thomas, like everyone else, saw the viral video of a United Airlines passenger being dragged off an overbooked flight when he would not disembark and was appalled. Li Rui at 100-years-old. Cantankerous and rude, but nevertheless quite a man, with very much a mind of his own. Been pretty brave in his long life too: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-39580213
Good morning! Hope you all enjoyed a happy Easter as we did, even though the weather was lousy. This morning, the 18th of April, it's Springtime in Munich, snowing like hell and I mean snowing, bloody near a blizzard! Never mind, stick the heaters back on!
Great news! I have a couple of chums visiting Munich just now and they have been torturing me with posts from Zum Augustiner, Altes Hackenhaus, the Lowenbraukeller at Stiglmaierplatz and Zum Durnbrau. I realise that 'schadenfreude' is not a particularly admirable quality to own however one must be allowed weaknesses in an otherwise empathetic and caring nature.
Well, brightened-up a bit and now +3° C. Thick early snow did not hang around thank goodness. However, really did go down to Aldi earlier and it was bloody cold for the 15-minute walk. Certainly not Spring as yet. The strange berry tree (which the blackbirds love) next to our bedroom window has not blossomed yet, and is wondering what the hell is going on, I guess. Your pals won't be thinking much of this weather, BK, so don't let them bullshit you!
Have already been informed that late last evening they 'celebrated' my absence with a few swift shorts in 'Le Clou' on Heiliggeistrasse (Viktuaienmarkt). As this was a favourite of my dear old Mum I intend taking severe revenge on their return! I suppose being deprived of a possible extra night in Munich will have to form my mild satisfaction for the moment. Any visit to the 'Fruhlingsfest' planned with Frau SH?
An interesting essay from Rachel Nuwer: http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20170418-how-western-civilisation-could-collapse
Not at the moment, BK. Next planned event will probably be my birthday breakfast bash next month at Widmann's. Their Frühstücke are really good, one of my favourite places in München. Maybe the 'Indian' in the evening, all simple fare, but that's what I like! http://www.konditorei-widmann.de/konditorei/
Jesus Christ SH; was in a deep enough mood about tonight's footie without this view of the future. Sitting at a third floor bay window at the moment; might as well open the window and .................!!! On second thoughts off to Paris in just over four weeks ..........
Looks troooooly scrumptious! Sometimes pop into Garam Masala on 'Am Radisteg' close to Marienplatz for a curry and Weissbier.
Sometimes pop into this cafe in Koln to satisfy my sweet tooth and other tastes! It was always a great treat for my Mum; large slice of gateau and a sweet course for her and a visit to the hot buffet and a Jack Daniel's for yours truly. www.cafe-reichard.de Not averse to a runaround and a hot chocolate in Dallmayr either!
What a character, and only 7-years-old........................... Nathan wanted his parents to let him stay up all night playing video games. Is that too much to ask? To achieve his rather admirable goal, he came up with a genius plan. His dad posted an image with the words: “Totally legit note I got from my 7yo’s school today”. The letter reads: "Dear parents, Nathan has been doing good in all his classes, except for VIDEO GAME CLASS! If he does not stay up all night playing video games, he will get kicked out of school!!! Start letting him stay up all night, and start tonight! He can play anything, computers, WII, iPod, iPads, phone and any other elecktronick. From, The school"
