David Nugent looks set to sign for Derby after they were the ones to meet the 3 million price tag that Middlesbrough placed on the forward. One of the clubs who didn’t meet that valuation – was Leeds United. Garry Monk’s side have, however, been strongly linked with a move for West Ham forward Ashley Fletcher in recent days and look a likely destination for the former Barnsley loanee. They have also been linked with a move for Chelsea outcast – Patrick Bamford. The youngster, who is currently on loan at Burnley, has been touted as another potential target for Monk. However, it is becoming clearer that their race to sign Nugent, who also look like letting Jordan Rhodes depart in this transfer window, is all but over. The forward who once represented, and scored, for England in a friendly, is the current forgotten man at his current club. It has been reported that fellow Championship club, Queens Park Rangers have been linked with a move for him. The club, now managed by Ian Holloway, are looking to boost a potential playoff push and the vastly experienced 32-year-old is said to meet the category that their manager is looking for. It has become known that Nugent is free to leave the Riverside, ever since Middlesbrough’s acquisition of Rudy Gestede from Aston Villa last week. Having failed to really settle at the club since joining from Leicester, it looks likely that any move could be used as a catalyst to revive his career.
