The Bale money revisited

I think its too early to write off Janssen yet, but agreed that he wasn't what we needed enough of the time last season. It's hard to pinpoint exactly how we improve the team (apart from specific instances where player x missed a great chance or player y made an individual defensive error last season, how many times were we really, comprehensively outplayed?) but as well as Son chipped in last season, not having a focal point like Kane or the Janssen who was top scorer in the Dutch league did hurt us at times. The other two are much of a muchness but I think we missed players further back - specifically creation from midfield, the Dembele and Wanyama positions, and another CB - and that is what we really need to strengthen. Sure it would be nice to sign an attacker to add to the stock we have, but more guile in midfield and extra defensive cover are my priorities this window.

 

Dimitar Berbatov doesn't play right back but if he did...

Good article Rob, but I think that you've vastly underestimated the fees that Lamela and especially Eriksen would demand.
I don't think that Levy would even negotiate with anyone bidding £38m for Eriksen, honestly.
He's 25, he's played over 400 games, he's on a long contract and he's massively important to us.
