Just flipped through some excellent recent photographs of the City of Munich, here's the lead-off one, the 'Frauenkirche' Cathedral:
Royal Mail will be issuing a set of 8 stamps on April 6th featuring racehorses (4 from the flat and 4 NH) The first horse announced as appearing in the set is Desert Orchid - would have thought Arkle and Red Rum would have a pretty good chance of being 2 of the other NH ones http://www.racingpost.com/news/hors...il/2221339/top/#newsArchiveTabs=last7DaysNews

I'll put up my hand and confess to using the term "great" a little more than I should, but every now and then it just doesn't seem anywhere good enough. The clip below shows one of the all time "greats" Mahalia Jackson at her very best. Louis Armstrong came on at the end and received a lovely reception, but the stage belonged to Ms Jackson. When she first started singing, I had no idea of what was about to unfold. Breath taking stuff.
On 23 September 1971, Mahalia Jackson would appear on television for the last time. After her performance, she staggered and had to assisted from the stage. Four months later, she would yield to heart failure.
Reminds me of 'Family House' parties when my dear old Dad would do his version of 'Louis' with the handkerchief! Turned his only child into a born showman! Also taught me the best way to dispose of 'dead men' in the morning! Miss the old chancer! Cheers Cyc!
Tis but childish and immature jealousy! One of my ex-work colleagues (now also retired) had just advised me on F'book that he leaves for a trip to Munich at the end of January. I think he intentionally mentioned some of the 'eateries' he intends to visit. He will no doubt be attending a 'performance' of sort as he is both a Choirmaster and formally the organist in the major Roman Catholic cathedral in Edinburgh. We are both prone to schadenfreude!
Finally 'found' someone to join my German rock stable of Die Toten Hosen, Peter Maffay, BAP and Fury In The Slaughterhouse. Latest entry is the seventy year old Udo Lindenberg with the Panikorchestra. Reason for this entry is that earlier someone posted some video clips by Till Bronner. This 'jazz' musician lets loose as a guest on Lindenberg's recent live album with a short (rock) solo to die for! One of the great (and only) joys in my advancing years is 'discovering' continental artists who are more than a match for UK bands! Herr Lindenberg lives in a suite in the Atlantic Hotel, Hamburg; a thought festers and grows in my bonce. Cyc; if you have the time (and inclination) please upload Udo Lindenberg - 'Mein Ding'. Cheers.
Cheers Cyc; seem to be able to transfer to F'book but still experiencing difficulty in 'Not606' accepting 'youtube' input! Not too shabby for a seventy year old drunk!
On 20 July 1991, the Greek oil tanker Kirki ran into trouble off the coast of Western Australia. At about 10pm, in heavy seas and force 8 winds, the forepeak ballast tank began to take in water causing the vessel to trim by the head. To ease the stress on the bow, Kirki altered course and speed to ease the pressure on the bow. Due to structural damage, pumping failed. At around 3am the bow gave way and fell off which in turn ruptured the No1 cargo tank. As oil spilled into the sea, fire broke out, probably due to arcing from exposed electrical cables. The clip below is a send up. Many overseas folk though John Dawe to actually be a member of the federal government. This is the comedian's take on what happened.
