I admit that I've had my concerns about Puel this season, but I can honestly say that tonight I could not be any prouder to be a saints fan, not only in the winning, but in the way we've got to the final, and a lot of that is down to Claude. Great tactics in both legs against Liverpool, so Mr Puel, I tip my hat to you sir. COYR

We're only going to bloody Wembley

Too right. He's in Saints history now.

McMenemy, Strachan, Puel - major domestic cup final Saints bosses.

Getting to the final without conceding a single goal, perhaps defensive football can pay dividends.

Claude has done exactly what I've been banging on about ever since Pochettino came to Saints: have a serious go at getting to Wembley in one of the cups. Claude has done that so Pochettino and Koeman can go **** themselves they have nothing on Claude. Well done Puel!

Let's hope he's on a list that doesn't include Strachan in just over a months time! :emoticon-0100-smile

    Quite right.

It's one HELL of an achievement to reach a domestic cup final in your first season at a new club in a new league.

"Clueless Claude shows no passion" is one of my favourite Saints fans quotes from the last few weeks <laugh>

Glad to continue to show my support for a man I've not said one bad word against! He's had the toughest job of all managers since our promotion (bar Nigel at the start)!

So glad you started this thread. I was about to start one called "Puel doubters go **** yourselves" but this one is classier.

He's not just got us to the final. He's done it doing what people have banged on about - getting the best out of some of our young players. Even when winning, I never felt comfortable with Koeman's approach. Poch played kids, to be fair. And maybe Claude is fortunate to have such a strong crop coming through together.

But he deserves his good fortune, if this is the case.

I don't give a **** that he's no stand up comic in interviews. He's a good football manager who's had a few big calls to make. If we could all be patient he could be the French Lawrie. And from me there would be no greater praise.

The goal? Sims to Long. Both of his substitutes combining to maximum effect.

    Thank you Mr Puel.

Its a hell of an achievement to overcome the challenges he's faced this season without making a right mess of it. We're steady in the league, bringing through new players, starting to get the best out of the players we've got and we're in a cup final. Congrats Claude. Hope this is the start of a great second half of the year.

He has had his critics, but clearly he has had the dressing room with him all they way. Well done and thanks Claude.

A masterstroke bringing on Sims. Pace on the break, worked a treat when the pressure was on and we couldn't seem to get out of our half.

I doff my chapeau to you, Monsieur Puel <applause>

Everyone goes on about Claude being dour and humourless. So is Wenger, so was Ferguson. He is paid to run Saints not be a stand up comedian. Strachan was a natural joker but if you aint funny, you aint funny. Claude has hidden depths, like knowing how to pick a team, that sickens off Liverpool. Genius!

Sorry Claude, I doubted you heavily after the poor run, but that was a hell of a performance. One of the best I've ever seen us play, so much heart/grit in defence and slick passing on the counter. Brilliant performance.

I think the word ego needs to be mentioned. I dont know anything about Claude as a person but he comes across as someone without a big ego, whereas Ron always gave the impression he was too big for the club.
    Allez les Saints, Rodney!
