Yes, massive fan of the Pharcyde La Cabincalifornia is another great album, prod J Dilla one of my favourite ever producers / artists Favourite track off of Bizarre ride is Officer 'Please, don't pull me over Mr officer, don't pull me over Mr officer Pleeeeaaasee'
I couldn't listen to a whole album by them, the odd tune here and there but Cypress Hill was just producing whole albums I could get through. However if there was only one tune I could choose that sends me back to my youth it was this number by Ice Cube Boxing off the XR2 whilst taking a well earned afternoon off college with some homies getting Chongd.
When Straight outta Compton came out, it was a massive moment in Hip-Hop and kind of woke the west coast up to the political rap that East coast acts like Public Enemy had been producing for years. I still have at least two Tribe albums in my CD changer in my car today. They paved the way for a lot of artists.
Yes Bope! That's a blast from the past, nice one...how about The ONYX? Could chat 90's hip hop all night, that was the decade for it for me.
J Dilla produced loads of 90's hip hop, from Tribe called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, The Pharcyde, Eryka Badu, Common, the list goes on and on. He is responsible for most of that sound. Also an MC, drummer, soundman, all round audiophile and huge influence on the whole scene. You should check him out.
Madlib the bad kid, AKA the beat conductor. Another epic producer who did lots of colab with Dilla. Both constantly reinventing themselves and the whole scene. One of my favourite Madlib incarnations is Quasimoto, who you might recognise from my avatar
Anybody else into that Broken beat scene that came out of West London a few years ago ? Heavily influenced by the whole Notting Hill carnival soundsystem scene
