With Joe Pigott signing a new three year contract this week, I am more convinced than ever that there is NO takeover in the offing. What if the players contract situation really is part of a carefully constructed plan ? The owners have talked about getting us in the Premier League. In the same way that they had a mass clear out in our League One season, could the same thing be about to happen again ? If the Club start to selectively award contracts to a handful of players...say Solly and Wiggins, while ignoring the rest, then I reckon the answer could be 'yes'.
I agree mate, this thread is a perfect place for this http://tattooedfootball.com/lets-talk-about-money/ my take on all of the finances and contracts.
You make some valid points. This thought only occurred to me this week, AFTER they offered Pigott a long term deal. I also happen to be reading The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver at the moment. Could it be that we have all been missing the blindingly obvious ?
Church was also given a 2-year contract, presumably because the deal was affordable. I'd put a new managerial contract as a NEED.
yeah, there's only going to be about 8-10 deals handed out i reckon. the rest will be offered reduced terms (as it will be the norm under FFP) or told to go away - we'll be able to sign the same quality or better for less money.
This is the other interesting thing about the takeover theory. Could no contract offer yet to CP be seen as owners who plan to stay around, but with a new manager next season ? If they rate CP then surely a contract offer must be imminent...
Especially with the sacking season not far off, there will be vacancies. Any club wanting CP won't have to pay much compensation. If he was offered a 3-year contract by another club I can't see any reason why he'd want to hang around waiting to see what Charlton may or may not offer him.
This is Sheffield Wednesday MASSIVE. Things must be going on behind the scenes - not in terms of a takeover - but the powers that be have gone back on a few things they sent out internally which caused unrest. This excites me as much as the news we have Solly tied down.
Fantastic news, and a 4 year deal! Be nice to see a few other contract extensions over the coming months
Cracking news about Solly, just got to sign, Wiggins, hamer, jacko, stephens, pritchard, yann, morro, cort, dervite, Harriots, Evina and we're sorteed
HUGE move forward, and a big 'hands off' signal to any prospective suitors. We could be seeing the core of a new side emerging here. As far as The Good Doctor is concerned, what if he's said something like 'we can talk about my contract any time, first of all, this is what I want going forward'? Just a thought.
