So where are the US, British and French military aricraft then? Lunchtime news shows hundreds of civilians being killed by their government using tanks.

... and the difference between Syria and Libya is .... ? Oil perhaps ? :0

No - but it shows the complete hypocrisy and pretence that it is not all about oil

Military competence perhaps? The syrians would put up a damn good fight and we haven't got the resource. You go for Syria and you go for iran at the same time, that would be a world war I'm afraid.

If it were all about oil, I suspect Bahrain would be quite high up the list.

I agree with you in general Lenny, and it does hold true when you compare Libya to somewhere like Zimbabwe. But as aberdeen says, Syria and Iran are a World War in the making. One that I fear is inevitable in my lifetime, but hopefully a few decades off.

I am not advocating we go into Syria just that we should not interfere in Libya - China is worse than Syria and I doubt we would contemplate taking them on.

All it shows is that we do what is in our strategic interest and pretend we are humanitarian

I don't know why we cannot accept we are no longer able to pretend to be a world power and so stop all this military intervnetion in places that dont concern us - the Japanese and Germans learnt very well after the war how to look after their economies first and forget world domination
