A GOOD IF NOT GREAT READ,,, on the mags site, and the response was magic, nothing less.
small niggle though, as follows,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sorry, the article was tops,,,,but
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I live with a Glagow lady and every bloody day its a geordie or Glasgow accent, they dont have mackems, teesside or Durham accents outside the northeast, we are all Geordies "

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

sorry Syd never was a geordie never will be, all the same canny yarn, and well recieved by all, me too. also starred it maximum.

when I am back in UK , I live in Ellington , Morpeth, NORTHUMBERLAND, we speak a different language,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ie,,,,,,,,,,,expression,

    " the wiles o wannie"

means, I think,... somewhere far away,,,, or mental, my missus says this,,,,, but cant explain.

and shes the one with the brain cell,

Outside the north east we sound the same imo, but there is a difference and I can spot it a mile off between Geordie and Mackem, its all the same noise elsewhere though <laugh>

Accents are becoming more "generalised", and to those outside the NE we do all sound the same, but to us there are huge differences. As an example I was with a bunch of lads, the craic got round to football (always does) with the NE lads gravitating together. As we sank a few, the local accents became more pronounced, and someone said "I bet I can tell where you are all from if you say just one word....Beer!" Long story short, we went round the crowd and he successfully identified lads from North Shields, Newcastle, Gateshead, Jarrow, Hebburn (amazed at that), South Shields and stunned me when he said one from South Sunderland, I was from North Sunderland (couldn't be certain where) and another lad was Suddick (he was).

Next time you are out in mixed company, try it!!

See, my Mackem mates think i sound Geordie after living in the toon for 10years, but my Geordie mates say i'm one of the most Mackem sounding people on earth.

    Queer that.

This is what makes me laugh about this Geordie/Mackem accent arguments. There is no generic Geordie, or Mackem for that matter, accent; and there are subtle differences from people from each area. For example, Seaham and Murton are next to each other, but their accents are very different. People from North Norhumberland could be mistaken for being Scottish and people from South Northumberland speak differently from Newcastle people. I'm originally from Ryhope and my accent is different to that of someone from Hendon despite both being from the South of Sunderland.
It is strange to me how southerners think we all sound alike.
