Boris The fair play rules are not only for entry into Europe , but for financial well being of all clubs in the league, all 72 clubs in the league agreed to set limits of how much income can be spent on wages, league 1/2 set a limit of 55% of income, the championship 65% I believe. Not complying leads to fines and sanctions like points deductions and expulsion from the league for serious breaches. The entering of admin or cva is not what I was talking about, the swans were there in 2002 but have now moved on , the point I was making is that a football club is a business first and it should stand on it's own feet and make a profit, out of the 24 clubs in the championship only 3 made a profit last year, that cannot be right and sustainable.
But it is coming and rightly so, go and ask the revenue if a football club is a business or are they something else ? The whole problem with a lot of fans of clubs are that they think of it as something different to a business, it's not the club is first and foremost a business that should stand on it's on feet without continual inward investment, if it can't then there is something wrong with the business model
Spot on Jagger.... The business model is vital and sadly lacking in allot of clubs... We have seen so many fail through a lack of just common sense business skills "don't spend without a sound financial base" or at least a clue how you intend to structure your debt and repayment. We ate a great example I'm sure in universities in how not to run a business. The issue still for me is no one is ever held accountable in football.... In business it's different matter Football I hope one day will act like a real business.......
Even for all the money in the world, I would not play for Leicester City. They are a small club with a medium sized fan base, mostly all from the local area, with the occassional win in the League Cup, nothing more. The best players want to play for the big clubs, Man Ure, Liverpool, Arseholes, Man Clity, Chelscum etc, so every other team get the leftovers. Leeds like Leicester, will never be up there with those teams, they are AWAY. So spend the arabians cash as much as you like, it aint going to make any difference.
Thats correct and what will happen to football eventually? Sky has sorted it all out and look where we are now! A big crash and back to regional football.
It will never go to regional football, but a big crash is inevitable IMO as there are to many irresponsible people in control of clubs and they are taking to many stupid risks, so when a big club crashes there will be a lot of fall out
There's going to be a crash at a big club. When the Russian guy gets bored of being at Chelsea (which he will eventually), or the Arabs at Man City, the wages will be a ridiculous percentage of their income and they simply won't be able to afford it. We've already seen loads of clubs going into admin, and Pompey recently etc. I think it's stupid that when a club gets relegated, a fire sale is the norm. What kind of financial plan is that.
Pompey were extremely lucky, any other business other than a football club would have been wound up or put into administration. Still can't believe they didn't get points deducted.
Irrelevant deduction in the PL, they were already more or less releagted. The points should have been deducted in the Championship.
West Ham,a once proud club who sold their soul to the porn mechants,a club who at least tried to play the game the right way,but who now out of desperation have turned to long ball specialist Big Sam in futile quest for success. Decent footballing men like Ron Greenwood,John Lyall & Bobby Moore must be spinning in their graves.
Well atleast West Ham havent been sniffing round the grave yard of football for the last 5 years bitching about what a big club they once were.I remember when people feared playing leeds, can you remember the last time anyone feared playing the netball team formally known as Leeds FC ? Talking of style of football, what has Leeds style been exactly over the last few years ? What ever this style is, You,Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday can keep it to yourself. I cant believe a pair of second rate supporters of such a burnt out club such as leeds has the nerve to try and talk down West Ham,next time you decide to open your mouths why dont you try and be smart and stick one of those famous yorkshire pies in there before you embarrass yourself again
I love how all the West Ham supporters think they're huge because they've been knocking about the bottom half of the PL for years. How dare we try to talk the down . And people said we were arrogant...
Jager, thanks, I didnt realises the extent of the rule on lower league teams I did just write about 500 words detailing how football is very different from normal business and how if they are to be treated the same, then the financial fair play laws are ridiculous. I also whined a bit about Barcelona and their ridiculous debt and how that seems to be alright in the eyes of Platini, but I pressed the back button on the wrong tab of my browser and lost the lot. Regardless I dont mean to come across as a WUM and I enjoy reading the opinions of other actual football fans.
At what point did I say West Ham were huge ? Compared to Leeds I suppose we are huge,I dont mind people taking the piss out of West Ham but there are limits,Leed's being at the top of the piss take league.im surprised all Leeds fans havent moved over to a proper football club such as Wigan, their a club that doesnt get all big time charlie about the size and worth of their own club and fans and flush their status down the toilet, nice steady club Wigan.
