The Saints travel up north to face the Black Cats in a game that has taken extra importance due to Sunderlands mini revival and our poor league form.

Sunderland have been dire most of the season but will come into this with a bit confidence after a home draw with Spurs and 4-0 away win at fellow strugglers Palace.

Us meanwhile, have had a mini collapse in the league losing 6 of our last 7. This will be our last game before the cup final and a chance for the fringe players to try and nick a spot for United at Wembley.

Sunderlands key man: Defoe- Don't need to explain this one, within 2 goals of the top scorer in the league playing for Sunderland is remarkable at his age really. Good record against us too.

Saints key man: Gabbiadini- The Italian scored a cracker on his debut and generally looked bright. With Saints well published defensive issues, getting goals could be very vital moving forward.

    Ref- Paul Tierney

My previous m/t record- We don't need to know that <yikes>

    TLL's team:

    Forster
    Cedric
    Stephens
    Maya
    Betrand
    Romeu
    Pierre
    Davis
    Redmond
    Long
    Gabbiadini.

    Heart: 1-1
    Head: 2-0 <sorry>

Just a quick one knocked up on phone... hope no one minds.

    UP THE ****ING SAINTS!!

Not a chance any fringe players will get an outing for this game. We've had a few big games this season, lost some and won some but this is yet again truly massive! Win and we're back in mid table, lose and my weekends will be scary till May!

I'd like Tadic to play (the good one, the one that scores goals Tadic)

Last chance to stake a claim for a Final place so should ensure a committed performance. No-one bar Bertrand Yoshida and Romeu guaranteed a start at Wembley.

I left Tadic out as I think this is exactly the sort of game he tends to go missing.

This is my hope too. Though it can of course go the other way with players having one eye on the final and scared to pick up a knock etc.

Sensible and unbelivably frightening at the same time ( sorry Cuco).

We've got a terrible record against Sunderland and I always feel that result has destined us for even more misery against them <wah>

    Cheers SD, added <ok>

Starting to fail to see what Davis brings to the game, he is not a defensive MF and he brings nothing to the party going forward. I would go for Romeu, Pierre and JWP and if Puel wanted to go for it(probably not) play Sims instead of Pierre. Now we have a striker with good movement, good pace and good finishing we have to try and find the bugger in dangerous areas. No idea why Sims was missing from the last squad

Can't see us suddenly dropping Forster before the biggest game of the season. But otherwise I agree.

Le Tiss after the Pool win said the players will be fighting to get into the team, to stake their claim for a start in the final, and he was looking forward to a strong league run, so much for that idea
