FORMER Sunderland boss Terry Butcher is confident on-loan Black Cats winger Duncan Watmore will be Hibernianâs baby-faced assassin. Watmore joined the SPL side on loan until the end of the season on transfer deadline day â just six months after the 19-year-old arrived on Wearside from non-league Altrincham. The winger has made a big impact on Sunderlandâs coaching staff after impressing for the clubâs Under-21s this season, and was handed his first-team bow in last monthâs FA Cup third round victory over Carlisle. And although Watmore is tender in years and appearance, Hibs boss Butcher hopes to make the most of the teenagerâs talent after beating off competition from a host of Football League clubs to sign him on loan. Butcher said: âDuncan looks like he has won a competition to be here â he looks so young! âHeâs 19, but if you look at him at first you think thatâs the mascot having a warm-up! âWhen you see him play though heâs an incredible player. âDuncan attacks full-backs. He gets them on the wrong foot and goes past them. I donât know how he does it sometimes, but he does. âHe delivers a great ball as well, and is all-energy. He lifts you off your seat, as simple as that. âHe makes me want to jump up in the air because heâs that different to what we have. âDuncan can tackle and get stuck in, but heâs also gifted on the ball. Weâre lucky to have got him because other clubs definitely wanted him.â
Everything we hear about this lad suggests a major find. I'll be keeping an eye on Hibs, always liked Butcher despite his nightmare spell as gaffer here, he's done great up there.
