Last summer we were treated to the arrival of a £28m striker and we ended the window with a net spend of around £33m. However this summer, normal service appears to have resumed and this years additional TV revenue seems to going nowhere near the squad, as to press we've only spent around £4m on Cleverley and Deulofeu. I know there's still nearly a month to go, but with the season only days away, it doesn't appear as it we're likely to be spending big this summer. Which begs a couple of questions really; 1. What is the clubs ambition for the season and beyond? and 2. Where's the £30m of incremental TV cash gone / going? Thoughts?
1) Europa league qualification at best, despite RM's utter( for the cameras ) ****e. The chance of breaking in to the top 4 have long since evaporated. 2) fk knows, but it's not on players. But it will soon be £60 + million in the coffers when Stones is sold . Kenrights mattress must be overflowing by now .
Charlie Austin if Spurs don't make a bid, otherwise he will stay down south. The kid at WBA Berahino would be a good punt. Move on Mirallas and bring in Lennon and the lad Shaqiri on a lab to buy. Just need someone at CB, Lescott? Maybe Vlarr in a deal if he recovers from injury? But realistically it will be Valencia, Hernandez and Evans and a few quid for Stones from United
The fact that Martinez stated he still wants 3 players, says to me that he's not been able to do much business to press due to cashflow issues. Going into the seasons start without having brought in the players you've wanted all summer, seems like madness to me.
You know as much as I do to be fair. He didn't have his hands tied last summer handing out a record fee and new contracts to key players.
He was well backed last summer, but we are where we are, and we need another CB, a playmaker / winger and desperately need another striker - as if Lukaku got injured we'd be completely up **** creek.
I fully agree, but saying he is not backed/implying he is not being backed is a little early. We know how things progress once the season starts and clubsknow what they want/dont want and the window looms close. If we start the next game after the window without McCarthy signing a new deal, selling Stones and no additions then I will be worried
I agree, and I won't pass judgement until the window shuts for that reason, however the signs don't look good at present and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned. We need a great start to give the place a lift, as it feels a bit flat. A win on Saturday would at least give us a bit of impetus, anything less and it'll feel a bit meh.
Must admit my expectations are as low as they have been for a good while I can see us struggling this season tbh
And had your worst season since 05/06 when you had a £25m net spend. Kenwright probably recognises spending money doesn't work for you, and not spending money certainly works for him.
Rodgers spent over £100m for possibly the worst season in 50 years for the RS. FSG can't see that Rodgers is #rodgersthefraud
With McCarthy signed up for five years and Mirallas to sign fr three more years I have to ask..... where is the money coming from and what has made them want to stay? Surely Stones wages will be distributed once he leaves, but maybe that's destined to go to Jnny Evans when he signs as his replacement?
Have you guys compared seat numbers, it would be interesting to see if you sit near each other . (knob sizes would do the job though )
I sat with a few rows of him for about 5 years. I've moved now, as the smell together with the Wessie accent finally got to me.
A few rows, you only ever knew the block I sat in. However there was a big area of empty seats with just one bloke sat in the middle, just behind me....... Guessing it was our caravan flipping pal Tobes
