I think Perez needs to move on for his own good. Even though when he played earlier in the season he showed he can score goals, for some strange reason Wenger won't play him nowadays and in fact he hardly ever gets on the bench. He has never been given a proper chance with us and its something I can never understand considering his ability.
Same goes for Campbell and Gnarbry. He has his favourites that's for sure. When you look at the return that Oxo has for us this season, you wonder why any of those three players aren't playing over him. Strange.
Na. Would you actually be that unhappy with that? Lacazette would be a massive addition to this squad. 31 goals already this Season. He's a quality forward. Also Turan is an excellent attacking midfielder. A DM and powerful CB should be on the shopping list too - but lets be realistic here. Neither Wenger or Gazidis likes spending the cash enough for that to happen.
Not unhappy at all with Lacazette but he's going into a very competitive league and in a far from vintage Wenger team, so we're not too sure how he'll work. Turan is a very good addition too. I think my main concern is with the manager, i'm not sure he can get the best out of the players anymore. He seems to have run out of ideas or just copies others, his 3 at the back just looked like a straight copy of Chelsea. It's a bit like his obsession with Barca, when he tried to buy every small midfielder in the world to replicate them.
£23m release clause in Toby Alderweireld contract and he doesn't wanna sign a new deal. Arsenal... time to do another Sol Campbell!
Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan in advanced talks to join Arsenal as the Gunners eye replacement for German star Mesut Ozil https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3385615/barcelona-arda-turan-arsenal-replacement-mesut-ozil/ ARSENAL are closing in on signing Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan to the Emirates to replace Mesut Ozil, according to reports in Turkey. The 30-year-old is widely expected to move on from the Nou Camp in the summer after falling out of favour with departing manager Luis Enrique. According to CNN Turk, the former Atletico Madrid star could leave the La Liga side for £20million after failing to impress the Catalan club. He is seen as an ideal replacement for the Gunners’ current record signing Mesut Ozil, whose contract runs out in 2018. Looks like solid rumours now and should be a very good signing for not too much money. We can still keep Ozil rather than replace.
You can get the best players in the world but with the way Wenger is likely to handle them we will still struggle for 4th.
It's not a like-for-like replacement and he's 30, how many years will we actually get out of him before he loses his legs? His figures as a bit-part player for Barcelona have been impressive this season to be fair, but I personally would be quite underwhelmed if this goes ahead.
Probably a short term solution for Wenger, with his main goal of getting top 4 next season should we not make it. I agree, not a replacement and would be foolish if they thought it was.
He's a very good player. Similar to Fabregas in style actually - who apparently was a player we 'didn't need'.
No he's a central AMF. Occasionally he gets floated out one the wing at but its not really his position.
I'm only recently really coming to the realisation quite how atrocious our summer 2016 transfer window really was... Masked very well simply because we spent loads and everyone through we had to have strengthened because they all cost a lot. But now you look at them and think what an absolute farce it was spending almost £90m to make our team weaker. Signing Xhaka in his own would get some managers sacked. Please god don't give this French tw@t anymore money to spunk up the wall.
Arsenal's biggest problem last summer was that cos we imploded in our last 3 games it allowed you to come second and it allowed Wenger to make his "it's in Arsenal's DNA to come above spurs" comments. That arrogance led to a false conclusion that you were not far off. You needed a top striker, a decent midfield battler and at least one central defender. Xhaka (excuse spelling) makes Sissoko look an almost sensible buy.
Those of us who weren't blinded by the rhetoric knew that our second place finish meant nothing. We hadn't improved and still had all the usual issues. Any sane person would have seen that it wasn't just you that Imploded but all the other top teams. This season shows exactly where we stand, we belong where we are until we sort the issues in the club and on the pitch. It will take more than money spent in the transfer market to solve our problems. Our problems are systemic and go deep into the current hierarchy. This is what makes pro Wenger supporters infuriating. They've become Wenger groupies rather than Arsenal supporters. We should look at what's best for the club rather than bend backwards to excuse and cater for a faded manager.
Rumours of Fabregas leaving this summer. Here's a thought, why don't we sell Ozil for a large fee and then get Fabs for less money, less wages and then with the money remaining, get another midfielder? I'm sure Fabregas wouldn't mind coming back and we know that he is proven quality and a success for us. Not that I want to sell Ozil but sometimes you have to strengthen the team as a whole and this would bring more quality to our squad.
Not sure of the veracity (only one source) but chit-chat going on that the agent of Alexis Sanchez (same as Arturo Vidal) is in 'talks' with FC Bayern Munchen.
I've got nothing against Ozil as i think he's a fine player, but i agree with what you said. Ozil is a pure specialist in terms of creativity and vision and is the best in the business. Great when you have a well balanced, top quality team like Real or Bayern. But when you have a team like ours that have some deficiencies in squad quality, mentality and strategy, it's hard to completely play to his strengths or disguise his flaws. But our problems lie deeper than a singular player like Ozil, we haven't even started to tackle the issue yet.
